Monroe?? You want to make Duncan opt out of his contract and resign for peanuts so you can throw a max contract at Monroe?
This is lunacy, OP.
Stupid post! He won't take a pay cut and nor should he take a pay cut. No way the Spurs pay him less. He'll get another 3 years at around the same level of $10 mil per year.

Uhhh, if you were Tim Duncan and opted out so the Spurs could give you the minimum to max out a player who you're better than, how many of you would do that? I'd be pissed off, especially if that new guy doesn't perform. It'd be too much of a gamble, unless you're getting someone like Lebron.
If Tim opts out, the Spurs should play him more, not less. Geez wiz, that's crazy to ask him to take less.
The only way Tim would take less would be if Pop came to him and said, "Last year when we lost when I whispered into Lebron's ear I told him we were gunning for him in 2014 and you were willing to take a paycut."
What's all this about Tim taking huge paycuts his whole career? Hasn't he been paid the max almost his entire career? He took a small paycut in 2010 and a big one in 2012.
Tony and Manu on the other hand have given up a lot of money to stay on the Spurs. Parker at $12.5m/yr is a bargain, and the same goes for Timmy at $10m this year.
To ask Timmy to take less would be ridiculous, and we wouldn't be able to get a real quality player anyway.
Tim's earned over 200M in his career and he's lived in SA so it's not like he's been dropping Millions living it up here.
duncan's too nice. he should have at least a little bit of kobe in him. after game 6 was the perfect time to throw his coach and a certain teammate i will not name, under a bus, but he never did and didn't do it in the off season. sometimes u just got to say something.
I don't agree about throwing them under the bus, but it truly was the one single time Tim Duncan's personality was a negative. He absolutely should have DEMANDED he be in the game at the end of 6.
I agree fully here, that I always think of from time to time.
Had he come out earlier he would have commanded a deal like Kevin Garnett got (which killed the Timberwolves & helped cause the lockout which led to Tim's ring anyways...). 6 years 126 million.
His option at the time
He ended up signing these contracts insteadHe could sign a seven-year deal worth $86.5 million with San Antonio, although he is considered more likely to sign a shorter deal.
Jul 16 2003
Signed a 7 year $105 million contract with San Antonio (SA)Aug 1 2000
Signed a 3 year $31.9 million contract with San Antonio (SAS)
Bruno has been so salty lately
so the real question is, does Tim Duncan want to spend X amount of millions at a shot at another le when the ownership over the history of this team hasn't shown the same willingness to spend that money?
Dealing with idiots becomes exhausting after a while.
taking the minimum so we can get Greg Monroe
If he wants to win another le he should leave TBH, because Pop, Enrique and Manu have been in blocking mode
...He wouldn't actually have a better chance to win with any other team, though.Remember, the Spurs are still in fact le contenders.
