Barkley is going against the grain just to e up the conversation.
Akin to how others like skip use similar tactics.
It's really about ratings and generating attention which helps these people's pocket books.
In the political arena guys like Rush and O'reilly have made a fortune.
Point is take it in stride and if you truly believe the detractors feel that way, the satisfaction of the Spurs winning will be that much greater.

Considering the fact the Spurs have blown out the Clips the last two times they played them.... I really don't think Barkley believes this. Every analyst is pretty much picking the Spurs to pick the West, hardly anyone did last year. Barkley likes to be controversial, that's all. But you can see, really favors the Spurs to win the West, because he always makes the comments about SA and how they will be going down their again this year.

He loves to say stupid things, Kenny looks at him sometimes saying what did you say? And Barkley reaffirms his statement and enjoys every bit of it.

Last year, after we won game 1 in Miami, he said something like "only thing the Spurs should worry about is to go and buy a broom" and we all know how it played out in the end... so, as far as I'm concerned, I'm glad he's actually rooting against us this time!

No way they're peaking, now they're playing great but Pop is going deeper down the bench quicker and quicker like he's not concerned about the other teams at all. That's the first time Parker has tried in a month. The bench comes in doesn't miss a beat now guys like Joseph and Daye are finishing teams off playing the entire 4th quarter.
Barkley is probably skeptical about proclaiming us as elite considering last year, after Game 1, he said that he doubts that the game goes past game 4... He jinxed us pretty hard I'll say, I'm glad he's avoiding talking about us.

Some of us may be sensitive but you just get tired of the lack of respect and back-handed compliments and I think that should be understandable. But you're right...let's just get #5.
This is true. The NCAA analysts he's been with the last few days look at him as if they wonder how the he got to be a pro player at all and he knows it...but still says the same ignorant drivel with authority.
Barkley is secretly rooting for the Spurs. He's just tired of looking like an asshole every time he shows the Spurs some love.
I could care less what he says. Spurs fans shouldn't worry either about what anyone says as far as the media goes.
I've been watching basketball too long to not know who's good or not. It's always about the match-ups and health of the players.
More concerned about the refs tbh
Like I've said before, I don't blame others for thinking OKC, Clips, and the Heat can beat us in the playoffs but to assertively claim we wouldn't even get out of the 1st round? Oh well, I'm past it. Let's finish this season off and get #5.
I'm gonna go ahead and rectify many wrongs in this thread:
1) Barkley knows basketball. He's been playing it his whole career and he has been analyzing for over a decade
2) Barkey has been wrong before, we all have
3) He obviously sees Clipper and Thunder as hungrier, younger, more athletic and with legic superstars to carry their teams in the playoffs
4) The Spurs current winning streak DOES NOT MEAN . Barkley knows this
is he underestimating the spurs a bit by saying they could lose in the 1st round? sure. But that's Barkley. To say he is a moron or he does not know basketball is infantile IMO
He obviously knows about the game but one wouldn't think it if they had never seen him play and just happened to tune in when he's been talking about it. He talks in double-negatives, repeats the same opening statement on his closing line as a means to explain his entire argument, and then makes blanket statements without providing any concrete proof to back them up. He does all this while trying to be funny and he usually is but one can't help but wonder sometimes.
