Again you place too much on winning. The spurs have won playing ugly. It is not coincidence the rest of the country calls the spurs boring. At one time the rest of the country was calling the spurs exciting but you were not around to see it. Those were the most exciting spur teams ever.
Yeah, .500 ball ing owns
We need to start calling out Green more. He's ting the bed worse than the '12 WCF vs. the Thunder. Whether Pop starts Manu the rest of the series or not (he won't), Green has to find a way to contribute defensively at least but even on that end, he seems lost out there.
I feel like it's partially my fault, never making another playoff game thread, wheres that dude Mel_13? We need him doing them![]()
Not me. the Spurs could have won playing exciting basketball like the Showtime Lakers but chose to surround Duncan and Robinson with boring players. You have Robinson and Duncan on the same team and only win 2 les in 6 years you failed as a front office. Those two together should have had a min of 4 les had the front office gotten some good players to surround them.
No way man, the Spurs just look out if it. Don't know what the is going on. Tbh.
That '79 team was great, but I don't think they would have fared well in the finals vs the Sonics, due to Dennis Johnson's defensive prowess against Ice.
D ROB got old at the end and was hurt alot, no way you call 2 les a failure. Showtime Lakers! Your fave team! Magic had 5 rings, Tim had 4 rings! NOT FAR OFF! I would say they did well. Manu boring? In his prime? LOL 4 les, Tim was too young his first year to deliver a le and learned more in his second and helped them RING! The years after D ROB was old and busted up, you act like he was in his prime for a good time with Duncan there! NOT EVEN CLOSE after 00, stop it! D ROB had a bad back etc. in his latear years, he was not a star anymore.
.500 ball is exciting when you are a new startup franchise in a small market like san antonio which never even had any major sports team.
The Hemisphere area was a more exciting place to watch a basketball game then what they have today.
But they didn't play .500 ball throughout the 1970s. They became so good they were accepted to join into the NBA. If they were not good they would have folded the team like so many other ABA teams.
Yes they were good. Angelo Drossos/ Doug Moe not Bob Bass
So 10 seconds and a missed shot with over a minute to go is a 4 point swing? I learn something new every day.
two les is a major failure with two hall of fame bigs on the roster. Most teams did not even have one Hall of Fame big. Robinson was still playing good, they even won a le in his final year and that was the one year he was the most injured with his back problem. You do not lose with Robinson and Duncan. The crappy players the Spurs surrounded robinson/Duncan with during the lakers run of 3 les was a joke.
How excited are we going to be this year? Spurs choke away a le and then lose in the first round to the ing Mavs the following year?
BTW, the year after the Rockets knocked the Spurs out, they went to the finals. They were hardly chopped liver, unlike these laughable Mavs.
Spurs are getting punked by Shawn Marion & Vince Carter ffs.
Can't really blame Duncan when you have one of the worst post-season performers of his generation(Tony Parker) chucking away the Spurs chances in multiple series('04 against Lakers, '06 against Mavs, '13 against Heat)
Context is everything. Chance to go up five with 1:30 you don't brick a three! You take the high percentage shot. Even if you miss you have burned clock!
No time. No score. Spurs win. Duh.
Instead we not only give them two points but 15 precious seconds they need to complete the comeback victory.
This failure repeats over and over and over. An older team cannot hold off a run without burning time off the damned clock, especially come playoff time--or the Finals.
Bottom line: That was a braindead shot by Manu. Per par.
The Lakers choked against that ty Rockets team in 81 back when they had 3 game first round series and then Houston beat a Kansas City team whose best player was Scott Wedman in the WCF.
His bad-timing also allowed VC to get off a pumpfake, which "guess who?" bit on.
yikes
Wasn't KC's best player, Otis Birdsong, injured in that series?
I have to wonder if its ownership though. I read somewhere that Peter Holt said after '07 they're all in together (meaning big 3, Pop etc....) til the end. Great for scrapbooks and memorabilia, not sure if that's good enough to win a championship though. I guess they got close last year, we'll see about this one.
Spurs had a 2 point lead with less than 2 seconds on the clock. Context is indeed everything. It's not a recorded event being played back... Dallas would run different plays if they needed more points. They wouldn't just do the exact same thing and score the exact same points. Get stops. Only neophyte ball watchers think the problem is always the offense.
Spurs can't get stops .not to say Ellis didn't push off or Manu was fouled but this series spurs aren't stopping the mavs for where the fck is that defense
As for Carter's last shot, I thought Manu maybe shouldn't have gambled and gone for the steal. But he recovered quite nicely and still made it tough on Vince. It was just a great shot. Sometimes these things are falling, sometimes they aren't. And of course Manu just had made a clutch play himself.
Overall, the defense just isn't good enough on a consistent basis. It seem the Mavs are dictating how the games are being played more than the other way around. That is surprising.
