First off the grizzlies tanked to play the spurs.
Secondly nobody on that team was the mvp. Who would end up getting their award at a press conference
Not really. Nobody knew in 2011 that the Grizzlies had it in them to knock out the 60-win Spurs. Fast forward to 2014, you just know that the Grizzlies will give a lot of trouble to any of their playoff opponents .

-2011 Z-Bo is miles better than any 2014 Grizzlies player
-2014 OKC is a much better team than the 2011 Spurs
-OKC has the MVP of the league while the Spurs' best player that year missed a game and played the rest of the series with a broken arm
2011 might have been more surprising but OKC potentially losing this series is by far a bigger choke.
I agree.
In college his athleticism made up for his lack of hoops savvy.
ALso LOL at the Memphis paper apologizing for calling Durant Mr. Unreliable ...
SO is this more fuel for Durant's fire does he come out with a game like Lebron did when facing elimination vs. the Pacers last season?
A HUGE game for Durant.
Could be first MVP since Dirk to get award while not being a active playoff member.
Good news in 2011 Dirk made up for it ...but can Durant wait 5-6 years to ring?
Hm maybe because I am attributing choke to surprise factor. Memphis also choked on a lot of times but the Thunder have found a way to out-choke them.
And its ing glorious.
yeah, not even close. And Manu that series was good, but nowhere near as good as today's KD or even Russ, tbh
Thats an insane stat, unbelievable.
Heck, Conley was playing out of his mind in 2011... shut down Tony and matched his output on offense... in this series, Conley has been ass most of it...
Come to think of it, this series might have been over if Reggie Jackson did not bail out Durant and Westbrook in game 4.
I guess I still expect Durant to show up and won't throw dirt on him until they lose that fourth game, but Westbrook is just doing what he always does.
IMO, the only other West team the Grizzlies would beat this postseason would be the Warriors. Outside of GSW and OKC, I think every other West team takes this Memphis team out in 6 or less. As Nono pointed out, Conley has been ty so far and Z-Bo has been very up and down. Their best player has been Tony Freakin' Allen.
It's just crazy that the only reason the Thunder haven't lost 4-1 is a monster performance from the Toxic Avenger Reggie Jackson.
I honestly don't know how I feel about tonights game, tbh. Playing OKC again would be even easier than the 5 game sweep was in 2012 for Miami. Seeing OKC lose in round 1 would also be hilarious.
The Spurs back in 2011 were a paper tiger, even though they may well have made it to the Finals that year had they stayed healthy. As I said in the Pacers thread, the Spurs only have six players from the 2011 team on their roster currently. The Big Three were really the only rotation players from that team that still are part of today's rotation (Bonner was in the 2011 rotation but it out of the current one for the most part, while Green and Splitter were deep-bench players in 2011). When you think about the continuity the Spurs are known for, that amount of turnover says a lot about the quality of that roster.
Westbrook's addition to the roster has been negative for Oklahoma. If he has any positive effect for them, I would need a microscope to see it.
Before he came back: 43-12
Since he came back: 18-14
Miami will three peat anyway so does it matter at this point?
Refs can't bail them out if Westbrook and Durant keep shooting ill-advised 25-30 foot 3 point shots.
What the does Heat fan care? Unless LeBron gets hit by a truck they have an easy three-peat. Thunder suck, Spurs suck, Pacers suck, they have no compe ion whatsoever.
In the 4 overtimes in this series, Westchuck is a combined 0-14 from the field with only 1 point.![]()
^ this, tbh
Unless the Spurs make the Finals, the Miami threepeat is in the bag. They might just be the first team to go 16-0 in the playoffs.
I think the Wizards can give MIA problems tbh Nene and Gortat gonna take Bosh to school.
Washington seems like a more dangerous version of Indiana last season. quick PGs and talented bigs tend to give the Heat problems. perfect blend of youth and vet experience.
I sure as hope so.
I disagree . The Spurs are significantly better than last season. They match-up much better with Miami, more than any other team, and would have HCA. Miami was only slightly better than Indi post all star break.
The Spurs getting tested early should bode well instead off cake walking to the semis.
