And I never said they were anything more than exactly that. I've said a number of times that I'm not saying Dallas is the better team, or that they are/were/should have been considered the favorite. I figured they would get swept or lose in 5 at the very best.
I don't disagree with this in the least bit. In fact, I have pretty much said the same thing all along. What upsets me is the fact that the Mavs had opportunities to not just steal a couple games, but actually put this series out of reach and even win it, but failed miserably when those opportunities arose. For instance, the poor 7 minute stretch to end game 1 wasn't really great defense by the Spurs, because the Mavs had plenty of open and good looks, but they went cold, made bad decisions with the ball, and generally just sucked badly in that stretch, while the Spurs capitalized on it. The last 3-4 minutes of game 4 they had a bunch of good looks (especially Dirk) that they again could not convert, and had little to do with the Spurs defense, because they were getting flat out open and good looks. Not to mention missing 10 FTs.
The Mavs were trying to steal the series, and in their efforts, the Spurs basically gave them the keys and said "do it". The Mavs tripped over their own feet before even getting to the door, and the Spurs walked up, took the keys back while laughing, and told the Mavs to go choke on a . Now the opportunity that was basically gift-wrapped to them is gone. That's why this series is frustrating to me.

Chicago was so unwatchable that the NBA actually fixed their series to end to early...
