Not going to give him the benefit of the doubt for the same reason (or one of the reason) that I didn't give Casey Anthony the benefit of the doubt: I don't buy the whole "I was scared so I didn't go to police." I have never shot anybody, but if I did (and I believed I was justified in doing so), then I don't think I would have much of a problem with going to the police because you just do what you have to do. But obviously the guy was regretful of the fact that he shot them because he probably wasn not justified in shooting them, which led to his fear.

@ shooting a lost child in the knee.
    you'd rather kill him?

Here's a hypothetical that I think makes my point.

There is someone rushing at your from 100 yards away. For some reason, you feel threatened by this person. You don't know what his intentions are but you believe they are to harm you in some way. You have a 75 yard long cattle prod which you can easily handle and control. You can either set the prod to stun or kill. The guy is now 75 yards away, you still feel threatened, do you use the prod to stun or kill him? If you kill him, you end his life and change yours forever. If you stun him, you give yourself more options. Call the police, run, approach the guy, etc. I know which choice I'd make. Now change the cattle prod to a gun. With Threat Neutralization training, you can handle the gun just as easily and accurately as the 75 yard cattle prod. No difference. You can handle the situation without any loss of life. I don't know why you are unable to grasp this.

I would not suggest this approach but I really have no sympathy to the people who were shot. I actually would love to see this happen more often, we need this for the depussification of America.
I know people are gonna and moan that no material property is greater than human life but them; those burglars, rapists & thugs were the ones who made the decision to do harm and created the situation.

Sucks that the homeowner has to go through this. He probably was severely misinformed about the whole "clean finishing shot" but it's somewhat his fault for owning a gun and not knowing what the laws are.

but, but they were good neighborhood kids who would never harm anyone.

There's a big difference between rapists and burglars. It's a good thing the Dennison family did not use deadly force when they came home to find a young British man going through their personal items. Had they chosen to shoot to kill, we might find ourselves without much of our knowledge of quantum physics, string theory, and dark matter.

    But yeah...that's fine right?

    Yeah that is fine.
I hope people who break into homes just to steal belongings "and wont really harm occupants" get their brains blown to bits.

Dont tell me you're one of those people who thinks that criminals should have the right to break into people's homes without fear of bodily harm and interference from the homeowner trying to protect their family and belongings they worked for.

I don't think it's so black and white (no racist). You were lumping in rapists along with burglars. What if that burglar turned out to be someone that had Azlheimer's? Or if it was someone who was trying to feed their family and was only looking to take a loaf of bread? Do they really deserve to die? What about a white teenager that's just having a rough time and hangs with the wrong crowd? Would you really celebrate in shooting him and ending his chances of going to college and becoming a life saving doctor? What if you shot the guy that was going to find the cure for AIDS or Diphtheria?

Once you brandish a weapon outside your home and property, the legal rules change along with that decision (in most states anyway). While I can understand your want to preserve life, I will not mock you for that, you DO NOT discharge a firearm to maim. The moment you choose to squeeze that trigger, it is to kill. If youre suggesting using the firearm as a threat, to give a very strong warning to cease, desist and remain still, then I wouldnt argue with you. If the perp is willing to surrender and obey commands given, then by your choice, they should live to see prison, especially if you are not in your home or property. If a thug pulls a weapon, be it knife or gun, and I have a gun, they die. If they threaten me with only their perceived physical superiority, then I would try to detain them with my firearm.

But in your home, the law allows that decision by the homeowner. No offense, and call me what you will, but here are some assumptions one can make about people that break into your home:

    1) They have clear intent meaning they planned to do this, it is not some snap decision.
    2) They have the home scouted in some capacity, be it for hours, days or weeks.
Most importantly and the rationale behind deadly force...
    3) They know youre home.

Think about that for a moment. A thief only wants to steal valuables, they would go to great lengths to avoid any altercation if at all possible. But a thief ceases to be "only a thief" when they enter your home with the knowledge that people currently sleep in said home. Now you are a very dangerous threat, the most serious kind of threat you can encounter in life. They have a) the criminal capacity to do it to begin with, b) the moral ambiguity to enter a home with residents and c) the all-important element of surprise on their side.

I dont know about you, but the thought is incredibly scary to me to think about. The kind of individual who would break into your home knowing you were there. *shudder* I mean, they know youre HOME!! My first assumption about such a person isnt that theyre here for my valuables, do you know what I am saying? Theyre ing sick, in the head, and my first thought isnt "Oh , my big screen LCD!"...its more like, "Oh , theyre going to kill me, rape my wife to death, murder my son and then probably make a sadnwich."

That type of human, that kind of trash that masquerades itself as something equal to you and everyone you know, literally sickens me to the core. Having your house broken into and robbed while away is horrible, but it shows a certain professional criminal decency that "no one was hurt in the making of this robbery".

No, you get into my house while my family and I are home, it will be the very last house you ever enter. There will be no surrender, no warning, no mercy. I am attacking with an overwhelming show of deadly force and killing any and all people unwelcome in my home, I dont care if youre holding a gun on me or running away in retreat, you all die today to the best of my abilities. I dont know what the aftermath will be for me on a personal level as I have never had to do anything like that (thank you God), but I am very confident that my conscience will be quite clear before the encounter begins. My rationale is sound. You can reasonably be assumed to be in my house with intent to kill my family. I hope they bury your ass in a shallow grave and that your death is slow painful.

So you'd rather not have a cure for a deadly disease that kills millions if it's going to cost the lives of 20 people in a park and some random family?

No one bumped this thread? Byron Smith was found guilty within hours, and listening to the audio made the jury cry. It is very disturbing, listen to @13:00 mark if you havent already. I am ALL for protecting your home, and the teens were MORONIC for breaking into his house. However, while I can justify shooting the first teen, and even the second. Going up to them and executing them while they are screaming and crying for their lives while calmly saying,"Hold on , you're about to die" is MURDER.

You have every right to protect your house and im 100% against the pussification of America, but this is a case of a man wanting to try murder once in his life and getting caught. He also calmly talks into the tape recorder moments later and complains they got blood on his floors. Dude is a psychopath.

Nothing but sympathy because he killed 2 attractive white teens. You'd be celebrating if they were black. They made their bed.

What about the fact that he parked his truck down the street to make it look like no one was home, grabbed a book, energy bars, a water and his guns and sat in a chair waiting for them to come. Dude planned on killing those kids, did it in a ruthless manner and has now been convicted no matter what any of you idiots say. I just heard the audio. That was chilling stuff.
