Super Quick Grades: Game 1 Western Conference Finals

I didn't agree with a lot of the grades.

I watched the game last night from my couch without getting on ptr or st because if things went south I didn't want to end up defending great players from idiots on game threads who couldn't find their asses with both hands. I actually enjoyed the game.

Not surprising that Parker got only a B grade (I forget if it had a + or - associated with it), given who was giving out the grades, but it is a travesty nonetheless. How can Parker get respect from the rest of the league when he gets so little from Spurs fans! Parker only took 12 shots, shot 50% from the field and had 12 assists with 1 turnover and he gets a B! What crap. Had he taken 20 shots people would be carping about that. Had he had a fair number of turnovers, people would be carping about that. If he made less than half his shots, people would be carping about that.

Parker outplayed Westbrook by a large margin when you take the entire game into account, and he did it with a strained hammy.

Manu had a really good game as well, and IIRC, only had one turnover.

I'm so glad that the Spurs won. They played beautifully!!

I love how the OP talks about Parker not passing the ball, then ignores that he had 12 assists.

Tony deserves an A, not the B- the OP gave him.

Giving Timmy a B- is also a travesty. Does the OP think we win without Timmy's dominant offensive performance? Sure, he had the matchup advantage much of the game, but still.

And then the OP has the gall to give Manu a C, who scored crucial baskets in the third quarter when things were heading south and had 18 second-half points, including several in the fourth quarter that put the game out of reach.

I mean...

But Kawhi got an A+, of course... Kawhi could put up a 4 points, 2 rebounds, 2-16 FG line and probably get an A- from the OP, tbqh.

He hit some big shots in the 4th. I believe he hit a pair of 3's that helped bury the Refs.

So we judge the game based on what he did for 5 minutes and what Duncan did on the offensive end in the first half?

It's gotta be about the totatalliy of the game..

Makes me sad how people expected a Grade A for Duncan when he was awful defensively. I specifically said Manu saved our ass in the third, but hey I guess in a game grade we should just forgot the awful things he did in the game.

Tim, Tony, & Manu - too low, especially Manu.

If those 5 minutes help slam the door then that certainly affects his grade.

Not every player is going to be absolutely flawless for 20 or 30 minutes. If he comes up big in money time then it certainly should bump their grade.

Sure, but are we suppose to give a player an A if he scored 5 points in the last minute but was part of the reason why the game was even close to begin with? NO..

Manu was on his way to get a D..He had an awesome third so he got a C..Tony was on his way to get an A, he was bad in the second half so he got a B..Duncan was on his way to get an A, but he was bad in the second half so get a B.

You gave Baynes an A for 5 minutes of work. I'm sure there was a minute in the game where he didn't get a rebound, point , or assist. The point isn't to diminish Baynes, but maybe guys like Tim and Manu were called on to do different things at different points in the game. Give a grade on impact, not a missed shot or two in the first half or a failure to stop Durrant from hitting a pick and roll jumper on a possession.

Wrong again.

Tony had 6 assists in the first half and six assists in the second half. He didn't score as much in the second half because, as he said, "It was what they were giving me…". In other words, he read the thunder defense perfectly, took fewer shots himself the Spurs didn't need him to score, and he got the ball to people who were scoring.

It was the perfect way to play the game for the pg.
