Yes it would be better to have the MLE and BLE, but this is not a bad trade at all.
It's not just the MLE. It would also be whatever players New York wouldn't want in a S&T. It's not having to dump 25 for cap space. It's not having to worry about timing Parsons' new contract.

If the Rockets can agree to a sign-and-trade with New York for Melo, they'd be able to trade "just" Lin and Asik and give Anthony a max contract. They'd need to give a few sweeteners, but they'll have to do that anyway in order to move Lin. Trading gives the Rockets the full use of the MLE, and it would allow them to keep Beverly and Parsons without worrying about cap holds. However, I don't think maxing out three players would be sustainable in the long run, especially if Parsons makes good money and the team uses the MLE to add the necessary pieces.
Idk about that. Morey can find cheap talent that can be used to fill out the roster, like he did with Brooks, Landry, Lowry, Beverley, Parsons (when he was in his first couple years), Troy Daniels, Jones. And in that trade scenario, they would have to take someone else like JR Smith back from NY.

Yeah, but Houston's Big Four would be making $75 Million ish combined in a few years. Add in a competent MLE PG, and the Rockets will be pushing the tax just from their starting five. It would be a struggle to fill in the roster with good enough role-players to win a le.

You also have the possibility of, if someone signs, taking a slight paycut. I'm sure Melo and LeBron both would but we will see. I don't think Parsons will be there long term anyway. Someone will offer him a crazy contract.

Gonna be funny when Asik and Davis dominate Howard next year every time they play the Rockets.
This has to be the dumbest FO, I thought the Bucks FO had this locked up. Overpaid Anderson. Max out broken Gordon. Overpaid Tyreke Evans. Trade a possible lottery pick for a salary cap dump Asik. They still haven't fired Monty Williams with his .333 win percentage.

Good deal for the Pelicans. Asik and Davis are going to be tough for anyone.

They probably could have gotten it done for a second rounder though.

I don't like the trade for NO at all. Pelicans still have a ty roster. Their guards/wings are horrible; none of them can shoot. Teams will just pack the paint on them and the Pelicans will be unable to score. I don't really like pairing Asik with Davis; I think AD would work better with a stretch 4, not another paint defender who is offensively challenged. And the Pelicans lose their 1st rounder, which WILL be a lottery pick (book it). Houston makes out like a bandit on this one.

Finally a poster with common sense...seems to be a difficult find on this board.

I agree with this overall, but I also wonder how much ownership is behind this too. Benson is 85 and maybe the people around him are trying to build a winner as quickly as people.

But honestly, I think this is Demps mostly. He doesn't really seem to be a guy who looks at advanced metrics when evaluating people whether its resigning Gordon, trading for Holiday, signing Tyreke, drafting Rivers. The Anderson signing was very good, but otherwise I'm not impressed.
I think Demps & Monty are feeling the pressure to win now because I think that otherwise, the end is near for both of them.

I think it's funny they trade Noel and everyone says it's a good move since he couldn't play next to Davis, but now Asik is a great fit when he has every current shortcoming of Noel without any of the upside?
Pelicans drafted Noel because Philly wanted him. Had nothing to do with playing next to AD because they wanted Holiday. Plus will Noel ever be healthy?

Anderson will get more minutes than Asik during most games. Asik will mostly play against big interior scorers.

But I hate the protection. If that's the case then this trade isn't worth it.

im a big anthony davis fan, so i became a quasi-hornets fan, just so i can root for a bottomfeeder too ... i thought the noel pick was perfect and was upset when he got dealt. that was such a terrible trade. him and a first for Holiday

shrewd deal for Hornets imho, they upgraded their paint without losing no significant value. Asick is such a defensive hardcore he's gonna save AD more energy for offense, like Rasho to Duncan back in the 2000s. Yet still I don't fancy their chances to make playoffs next season, as long as Monty Williams is the head coach.

Actually, this makes NO monstrous defensively. Howard is my guy and all, but I have a hard time seeing him having much of an impact against our division rivals now.
