This pretty much tells the story:
    http://www.ibtimes.com/blackout-how-...cience-1289381

Basically, a double combo of cannon fodder and yellow fever...

Argentina also had a huge influx from Europe during the World Wars. During the 1st World War, the two biggest ports in America were New York and Buenos Aires. New York eventually closed immigration and ships were detour to Buenos Aires. That's how we ended up with almost 45% Italian and 30% Spanish population. Almost 60% of Argies nowadays are of Italian descent.
LOL @ Brazil getting Africans & Argentina Europeans.

Oh man there are some funny "Argentina White" memes & photos

If we're going into demographics, this is more or less the basic history:

    - Indigenous peoples. Sparsely populated if compared to other regions of the Americas. Most of them weren't organized into social structures like the Inca or Aztecs. Many were hunter-gatherers nomads (central and south Argentina) or lived in small villages in the north. When the Spaniards arrived in the XVI century the European diseases hit them, but not as badly as those who lived in major urbans centers. They were progresively pushed into the corners of what is modern day Argentina by the Spanish first and then by the Argentinian goverment to create lands for crops. Being nomads, they opposed, sacked and burn towns and got pushed even further to the point of near anihilation in the XIX century with Remington rifles armed troops. There were pockets who survived, a minority mixed with the Spanish-descent population, specially in Northern Argentina.

    - Spaniards, first wave. They were around the lands since 1502, but they started settling in the late 15th century. They made up the bulk of the population of the Viceroyalty of the Rio de La Plata. As time passed by and inspired by the American and French revolutions, they declared independence from Spain and fought an 8 years war to liberate not only Argentina, but the whole of the South American continent from the Spanish Crown. Those that were settled since that period become known as criollos (creoles), which made the majority of the ruling classes. Others mixed with the Indigenous population and became the Gauchos.

    - Spaniards, second wave. Italians, first wave. Since the 1850's, when the lands were being taken away from the natives, the Argentinian goverment realized it had a lot of land, but very few in terms of manpower to work it, so inmigration was encouraged. Goverment agents were sent to Europe to offer opportunities to those seeking a better life than always war-weary Europe. They targeted the whole of Europe, but it was the Southern Mediterraneans who mostly answered the call.

    - Africans: They were brought as slaves to work in the mines of Bolivia or do housework for the landowners. But they pretty much got exterminated in the XIX century wars, used as cannon fodder or fell to the yellow fever. Some survived in Uruguay.

    - Spaniards, third wave, Italians second. Since WWI, going through the Spanish Civil War and ending in the 1950's, the highest increase in population happened. Waves and waves of boats with people escaping war, famine and political unrest. Most Argentinians can track at least one or two grandparents to this stage.

    - Rest of Europe: There were pockets, depending on the given time and cir stances, but since the 1800's to the 1950's a lot of minority groups came to the country. Scots, Irish, Welsh, English, Danes, Poles, Russians, Germans, Serbs, Czechs, Scandinavians, Croats, Hungarians, French, Portuguese, Ukranians, Jews, Greeks, Lithuanians, etc. They usually kept their original iden y in high regard in contrast to the Italians and Spaniards. Nowadays you can find towns in rural Argentina made by an absolute majority of their descendants and social clubs or restaurants in big cities which represent those groups.

    - Uruguay and Chile: There are many who live here or can trace their roots in those countries. Mostly the movement was fueled by job opportunities and the relative short distance to home. Uruguayans mainly set in Buenos Aires and Chileans across the Andes. Uruguayans are very much like people from Buenos Aires, so it's hard to distinguish them. Likewise, there are pockets of Argentinians in those countries.

    - Middle East: Both World Wars also triggered an influx of Middle-Easterners. Not as big, but an active minority. Turks, Syrians, Arabs, Armenians.

    - Asians: Post WWII, Japanese came in a significant number. Since the 1980's Chinese and Koreans are coming, but they don't assimilate to society much, they keep moving amongst themselves.

    - Paraguay, Peru and Bolivia: Since the 1960's they came in numerous flocks, because, even when Argentina was in economic troubles, the standards of living were far better than those in their countries. But many times they didn't find jobs and ended up in improvised shanty towns, unable/unwilling to go back to their homes. This is probably a sensible and controversial subject, because it's where racism is directed in Argentina.

    - Latest immigrants: Mexicans, Colombians, Costa Ricans and other Latin American countries. They usually are university students who come because it's cheaper to study in Argentina than in their countries. There are even free public universities, which they usually don't have back home. Some stay after graduation and follow their professional careers in Argentina. There are Senegalese and other Sub-Saharians Africans who escape their countries and are usually seen selling watches, cheap jewelry and all kinds of stuff in the streets. Not sure if they'd ever integrate into Argentinian society, the phenomenon is quite recent. Europeans seeking a different kind of life or exhausted by the economic crisis, they came, although nowhere near the numbers in the past.

My own personal descendancy comes from 4 different places for my grandparents: Basque, Lithuanian, Polish and Scottish. Except for the Scottish, they all came running away from the Spanish Civil War or after WWII left Eastern Europe in shambles.

If our defense shows up like it did against Belgium, I see Argentina 2 Holland 0. That's a big "if". Otherwise Argentina 1 Holland 2.
And no, we are not white. Just look at our team, how many of them would you consider white? Those guys look like the average argentine from Buenos Aires.

I'm always pessimistic but without di Maria I have a hard
Time seeing Argentina pull it off. Messi is gonna be back on island and at some point Romero will get exposed.

Lvg is a much better manager than sabella

At least Rojo will be back
