SpursTalk is elated with this news: for some, it's more time to appreciate a man with incredible perspective who also happens to be exceptionally good at his job; for others, it's 4 to 5 more years of complaining about that man and his utter incompetence.

This is fantastic news, I am a happy camper.
I was hoping for this and said so in the Popsucker thread before being trolled.
But this is the best news I could have ever heard and wonder now what the news is about Messina.
    Anyone heard about him yet?
No news on Messina, but the extension for Pop means that he'll stay until he has someone he trusts in place to take the job.

IMHO, and I have nothing to base it on except a hunch, that would be Messina since he is so familiar with Euroball.

Still could happen, Messina is currently out of a job.

How awesome has this summer been for Spurs fans tbqh? Bringing home #5, drafting lottery talent, bringing back core players, and now Pop committing to coach in a post-Duncan era. You could already call this the best offseason in franchise history and we're not even at the halfway point.

I figure Pop is at least the Spurs coach for another 3 to 4 seasons.

    Great news!!!!
Can Pop win one w/out Timmy? He has no peers in the coaching ranks, except for Carlisle, maybe. I think he can coach circles around Scott Brooks, Spoelstra, Stotts, McHale, Kidd....all these green coaches give him a chance to go for the jugular.
It is conceivable that there will be future parades on the river walk. What a kick-ass coach!!!!

lol @ anyone who thought Pop was serious when he said he'd retire with Tim.
holy x2. Always bugged the out of me when people would parrot that.

Anyways, really excellent news. It feels good to know he'll be around for a while.

I believe Pop would have retired if not for emergence of Kawhi, Patty, Green Splitter, etc. to form a solid group to build on. I was hoping he stayed to help develop LJC and Bertansas well. Spurs look like they have a promising young team after Manu and Tim hang it up.

I wouldn't be Surprise if Gasol signed w the Spurs after this news. He is basically assured to playing for the best coach in the NBA today for the rest of his career he wanted to.
