Sweet. So really, there is no reason not to use it then? Also, what is the deal about people saying that we shouldn't use it at all so it doesn't affect cap space next year? What's the story with that? How does it affect what the Spurs can do next season?
Most FAs who can earn $5 Million for a year can do so for multiple years.

Surprised Pierce didn't go to the Clippers if he was willing to play for the MLE. He's from LA too, isn't he?

edit: damn, I really ed this up. Forgot they used their MLE for Hawes, and Pierce is from Oakland not LA

I asked this in another thread, but no one answered : Question - Does anyone know if you can sign players to 1 year on the MLE? Some people suggest that we should keep the MLE and not spend it as it would affect next year's off-season money for free agency. Can someone explain to me what difference it would make to next off-season if they were to pocket the MLE?
The Mid level exception has a maximum of four years, though no lower limit. Usually there aren't 1 year deals, though 2 has happened a few times(e.g, Marco and Ayres split the MLE last year and got 2 year deals). Larry Coon's FAQ(http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q25) makes no mention of lower limits on years.

A 1 year deal doesn't impact on available cap space for next year. Biggest impact on that is a Kawhi extension now. As he was drafted #15, his cap hold is only $4m. Starting salary is probably about 15m: That difference is far more than any impact from signing a mid level guy.

what does Paul Pierece have left in the tank to offer at this point? Wall, Beal, Pierce, Nene, Gortat......not bad. I mean, can the Wiz now be one of the teams that can make it out east? Just wondering what he can give the Wiz right now.

Man...I would have loved to have Pierce coming off the bench. Two years at the MLE is solid value.

Brooklyn paid an extra $90mil for such a failure of a season. Franchise is on its way down and the peak was never even that high.

I can just hear Mikhail Prokhorov to Pierce : "Paul, you are...how you say (looks to henchmen in room for the right words - one whispers in his ear)... you crazy. You want I should laugh in face?"

Wall Beal Pierce Nene & Gortat... Nice 5.
It's a good short term solution and gives them the flexibility to go after Durant in 2016 when Nene's contract expires...
