Matt Bonner is sort of the perfect Popovichian Spur role player. Stays ready, plays hard without regard to whether he's successful or not, knows where to be and what to do, and doesn't about his role.

With that in mind -- from the Remarkable Stat Department: when Matt Bonner is done with the Spurs, he'll be in the top 15 in franchise history in:

    Games (8th)
    Minutes (12th or 13th)
    Field Goals (13th)
    Field Goal Attempts (15th)
    3 point Field Goals (3rd)
3 point Field Goal Attempts (likely 3rd)
    3 point FG% (likely 8th-10th)
    Rebounds (14th or 15th)
    Points (14th or 15th)

He will also be 6th in the rich history of this franchise in playoff appearances and may even surpass the 100 playoff game plateau on his way to that distinction. He will have made more playoff appearances for the Spurs than anyone other than Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, David Robinson, or Bruce Bowen.

None of that says that he's been particularly good, but hate him or not, he's one of the longest-tenured Spurs in the history of the franchise and will be a Spur for life.

Corporate knowledge, spacing the floor blah blah blah. Yes I know all the nuance things he "supposedly" does... but

Dammit, he's primarily out there to hit wide open 3s and never ing does. He's like those sheep that freeze and fall over when spooked.

I'm still waiting for the one Bonner playoff moment to redeem all these years, but it's never gonna happen.

Bonner has always been garbage. He may not hurt the team but he sure as rarely helps.

Bonner, Daye, Ayres are all done.
Daye and Ayers never started, tbh.

Still better than Ayres although that's not saying much.
Yep, however both happen to be on our favorite team....

How is the guy who can't share the floor with the two best bigs on the roster better? Maybe in vacuum, but not in the Spurs system.

A Matt Bonner with no 3pt shot cannot be seriously better than anyone else but Ayres. Baynes is way better. Bonner just fits better alongside TD

    , he is pussy.

Whats funny is some bring up this or that stat to support Bonner and say he tries o hustles etc., yet if his three is not falling which is all he can do usually then what the is he good for? Let me guess stretching the damn floor . Okay he does that to an extent but nobody fears he will make an actual shot at times and just leave him wide open. God BONNER SUCKS, then we have Ayres and as you said injured boy all the time.

bonner is a mob character, you can't pin anything on him. try to say call him on being a doofy ginger, you're some kinda racist. say he can't hit, it's the threat of the hit or he doesn't have to hit cause he's a loyal nobody. say you can't have any nobody's in the family, say you gotta bring in the euro specialists. your specialist's don't have the loyalty, or you can't trust the specialists somehow. say anything negative about bonner, watch your back. bonners loyalty has earned him a lot of... you guessed it.

Bonner hit two 3's in game 6 against OKC last year.

He gets a three year pass from me.

The way Bonner has always made up for his many limits was his hustle. It could be his age is now keeping him from fully doing that now.

I was against his resigning as I would rather Spurs have used that spot on something elsewhere but at least he is cheap now and doesnt get overused like before so it doesnt sting so badly

He doesn't need to share the floor with them. He's a serviceable backup to Splitter. The rotation should be:

    Duncan/Diaw
    Splitter/Baynes

I'm still waiting for the one Bonner playoff moment to redeem all these years, but it's never gonna happen.
What he was able to do against OKC last year was pretty damn big for anyone who was watching the return of Ibaka and games 3 and 4 of that series. I'm not sure how many Bonner hit that series but it didn't matter as he played his role and served his purpose to perfection. Pulling a hobbling Ibaka out of the paint was a key part of winning that series.

Ironic how Bonner's best and most important playoff series was one in which he didn't make or shoot many threes at all.

I agree that the guy is pretty much done. Teams still respect the out of him out on the 3 pt line for some reason though. Like I said, I would still take him on the floor over Ayres.

We set the bar that low, it's sad. It's a shame when some bum on the team sucks that bad (Ayres) that is makes him look good for hitting two threes in a game 6 after he probably missed a ton all playoffs. Bonner sucks

It's mainly because Matt Bonner looks like 90% of the forum posters IMO

Its like Spurs signing Will Ferrell for the remainder of the season. He'd be mister untouchable in this forum IMO kinda like Becky Jamon
