Maybe the thought is someone may actually claim Daye as opposed to Ayres.
    Doubt it.

Maybe the thought is someone may actually claim Daye as opposed to Ayres. He makes less money and had that big game recently. Saves money on the budget cap. He probably won't be claimed, but stranger things have happened.
Daye is probably owed around $500k. Ayres around $900k. Daye being waived and picked up would likely mean that it'll cost nothing for Spurs. Ayres however would stilll cost maybe $400k, furthermore the likelihood of Ayres being picked up is next to zero.

Ayres, though less talented that almost anyone in the league, at least has a good feel of the Spurs offense.

One good game out of 40 is not good enough.
    How did I miss this?

I agree, every Spurs player that was assigned to Austin scored in the 20s.

The Spurs are looking at something more than just basic stats.

Daye's biggest problem is that he can't bring the "Nasty" required for playoff basketball.

He has length, a good shooting touch and can handle the ball well. However, there's no "Nasty" in him.
    That nasty backpedaling though

If he can defend the rim and grab boards, that's pretty much all we need.

He's not a center, he's an undersized 6'9" power forward. I guess an Antonio McDyess kind of player. The kind of player that I was expecting Ayres to be.

Spurs still have Ayres to waive/trade.

Your understanding of set-offs and claims is off. The Spurs would not save any money if one of their waived players were signed to a min deal.

I think he's talking about the unlikely case of one of them being claimed off waivers, and not clearing waivers and being signed at that point.

In which case, the Spurs would save more by Ayres getting claimed. Claiming team takes all the salary, not just the min. However, no one's using an exception to claim Ayres.

    Decent shot chart.
Good. We have a dearth of pick and pop bigs. Tim's mid range jumper has been absolutely atrocious this year. Anything outside of 5 feet Tim is really inefficient (except for 20-24 feet where he's 2/3 but there's such little data there that it's irrelevant). Tiago can't shoot the mid range jumper, and Baynes is still raw.

Baynes played 19 minutes the game before, and got a DNP/CD against Portland.

I think the reason that Bonner is getting minutes is that while he's not having a Bonner year shooting from long at 37.5%, he's shooting WAY better than Boris, who, at 32.9% is barely better than Cojo from beyond the arc.

Baynes played vs Portland. He's been out due to his neck.

Not really. Duncan is doing mostly fine from the right side, so it's pretty cool that Green is doing well from the left.

Not that Green is going to play much.

nba.com says Duncan is 38.9% from 5-9 feet, 28.1% from 10-14 feet, and 36.4% from 15-19 feet. It doesn't make left/right distinctions though.

Maybe Daye getting cut can motivate him like Danny Green.
