Soooo... filing for retirement and walking away from next season's $24m is out of the question, amirite?
If he retires this year, we'll have a TON of cap space this summer regardless of The Pick!

Absolutely. That's what's best for the franchise, no doubt. What do you think it's gonna happen?

You're a 16 time world champion, Cubby. You've won before Kirby and will win after him. This is for the better, time heals everything...soon you'll be cheering on LA's newest superstar.

Good question. $25M could open up a few options. Not worried here.

That's fine. He'll be walking away with 22/5/5 and his team in the toilet.

Kobe is a prideful player. His place in NBA history is cemented. He's paid. But will he give up the only "job" he ever had? Not an easy decision. But he's been hurt like the last 3 seasons. I think the writing is on the wall. It'll be interesting to see what he does.

Nah, disagree. Despite what these farmers say, players dream of playing in LA. If we have cap space and the opportunity to build a championship roster, FA players will come.

"Quitting" after 19 years? No guard ever played this long fresh out of high school.

da, joing the growing list of assholes.

    Congratulations, asshole.
If theres one asshole, its Kobe Bryant. Just look at his post game quotes after the blowout loss last night. Calling himself phenomenal etc.

"We make a lot of it, but the reality is, I'm doing some pretty phenomenal things in 30 minutes," Bryant said. "My body is not that [expletive] up."
    ASSHOLE.

I take no joy in this, though. Now the basketball world will be denied his mercurial displays of futility as he tries to "prove the doubters wrong" by scoring 15 points on 20 shots and playing defense with two left feet.

Make no mistake, I want him going down in flames, but I wanted his crashing and burning to take place on the court.

Upside is we know he won't retire. He'll take this season off. In the off-season, we'll be fed continuous reports of 20 mile bike rides at 4 am and 8 hour shooting sessions. They'll tell us Kobe's working harder than ever, that he looks 26 again. Expectations will be high. Staples will be uproarious on opening night as Kobe is announced over the P.A. The cheers reach a fever pitch when he makes his first jump shot. The jaw juts. The Mamba is back. Haters be damned!

He then misses his next 10 shots and the Lakers find themselves down 20 going into half-time. Staples is as quiet as a church. You could a hear a whimper in the silence.

And that's how it ends. With a whimper.
