Yikes. Well, at least you found the three losses in his first 58 fights. All decisions, two split and one unanimous. He fought double-digit rounds with a broken jaw in the Frazier and Norton fights. He beat Spinks in the rematch and beat Frazier and Norton twice each after the losses. It's odd that you mention that he underestimated his opponents. Spinks and Norton I are two prime examples of his doing that, and he'd have only one loss if not for those fights.

He wasn't a great technical boxer, but he was so ing strong and so ing fast. I think he's the only fighter I've ever seen who was so fast that he could dodge an incoming shot by pulling his head back out of the punch's reach. He wouldn't even put his hands up, he'd just move his head back. Anybody else did that, they'd get killed. Ali got tagged on occasion with shots that nobody else would ever get up from, and he kept fighting. His toughness and his defense were what puts him up there, not his ability to hype a fight or intimidate an opponent.

I think people underrate Ali because they look at his record, count his victories and forget that he lost almost four years out of his prime.

Personally, I thought Mayweather's list was pretty good, in no particular order. Put Robinson in place of him and it's pretty accurate. I think I'd put Joe Louis on there instead of Chavez. If I were going to put an old-school fighter in there, I'd have Willie Pep.

Pep and Louis shouldn't be on any mans greatest list. I can run off 50 fighters that would destroy Pep and Louis. Its funny you mention how great Ali was at pulling back from shots... a cardinal sin in boxing, but it was that behavior that got his jaw broke twice. Oh... and Ali fought mostly no named stiffs and washed up fighters. The only great fighter he dominated in his prime was Foreman.

Cooper should have KO'd Ali, that whole corner delay was a travesty.

You see... these guys only watch highlights and listen to sound bites. You are correct, sir.

Lastly Ali was a heavy weight....so by default he was tougher because as a heavy weight you take and absorb punches that would likely literally kill someone in Floyds weight class...Floyd couldn't take a 3rd of the heavy punches Ali took....so to me there's no comparison....sure Ali lost but the heavy weight division is the pinnacle of boxing....Ali didnt need to win at multiple weight class because he was already at the top of the class....so by default of the dangers of the heavyweight division Floyd cant be put in the same category as Ali...and I'm a Floyd fan...

That's far from true. Ali never hurt Cooper even once in their two fights. Cooper almost put Ali through the ropes. Cooper was a bleeder so both fights were stopped early due to cuts.

He was a bleeder because he was defenseless against those Ali jabs

Ali never spent a day in prison. He was stripped of his le and no one would give him a licence to box. He was still a young man at 31 when he returned.

Yes Cooper knocked Ali down..but that knock down didnt mean ..it just woke Ali up....Cooper was tough..but the reality is Ali took him for granted like Tyson did Buster Douglas..... but make no mistake Ali not only hurt him but he kicked his ass...

Look at the difference in the fighters post fight...you cant tell me Cooper wasnt hurt....

Coopers eyes were basically closed shut from catching those jabs that he didnt see coming...this was part of what made Ali great tbh...just constant jabbing...its why he routinely beat bigger opponents
