Boris had a very bad game, he was passive Boris here, the size of 76ers bigs gave him trouble and he wasn't shooting from the outside in this game. Despite what everyone says at this point, he should not be defending on the perimeter as a 3, so if you are suggesting bench Anderson for Boris, in my view that is a bad call.
Disagree on Anderson. His helping in the paint was mostly to good results, since our bigs rotations were not necessarily on time and our guards quite a few times allowed dribble penetration. Most of the time he also recovered in time to contest a 3 without fouling. I do believe if Pop didn't like what he was doing on D, he would have been benched early like other games. Anderson also made a number of defensive plays, between steals and blocks. His length was giving trouble to anyone he guarded. He also rebounded like you would expect from a SF, didn't turn the ball over carelessly and mostly made smart plays. On top of that his 3s were falling in this game. He had a positive impact in whatever lineup he played so I think we will disagree on that.
I liked Ray in this game too, and I have liked him since preseason. He's another guy that like Anderson, on another team would be playing more minutes. He has always been dedicated on defense, has a very quick trigger on his shot and is athletic. He is similar to Patty in that he's at his best looking for his own shot, but he can keep his dribble alive. He had a very good game.
Butler's strength is precisely that he's a vet. He knows his game, stays within himself and doesn't make many mistakes. Obviously, unlike the other young guys, he has no upside. In games like this, where everyone has to do more and contribute to replace somewhat the contributions of other guys, he won't look particularly good because he is what he is, and nothing more. The younger guys luckily for us have more upside, and while prone to mistakes due to inexperience or what not, they are able to add other things that Butler does not. His lack of a shot currently is something to keep an eye on. He is continuing to let it fly with confidence. He has kept his effort on the defensive end and otherwise looks like a very solid pickup.
Danny Green has looked for many games like crap. He's not confident in his shot, is hesitating to shoot, making bad decisions with the ball. In general, he looked more lost than all of the above guys, which is not good for a vet like him. Luckily, he's still dedicated on D, and you hope whatever is making him think too much b4 letting it fly is going to be over soon.
Lamarcus had some open shots in good spots he missed. I think he deferred too much, which ended in other guys making plays that he should have taken for himself. It seems clear Pop is letting him play for now and not putting too much pressure on him.
Patty had a rough game in this one. His shot wasn't falling and he had several sequences where he made bad decisions or forced stuff. Its obvious Manu enhances his game.
Simmons was very good for few minutes. He played decent on D and made plays to be impactful in short minutes. If he could shoot the 3, I would like to see him more than Butler TBH, but with Manu, the second unit doesn't need penetrators but shooting. Cir stances have pushed Simms to the D'league, but it will help him to continue to work on his 3 pt shot and his dribbling skills under pressure. I am very encouraged by him though. Loved him in this game and I think in due time, him and Anderson could be a nice tandem for the bench with Patty or even Ray.
