Baynes is a good back up center, but he's not better than LMA.
I've noticed that this guy Blake Griffen is dunking on a lot of players in this league, not just our boy Baynes. He may amount to something one of these days.
Baynes is a good back up center, but he's not better than LMA.
We had okc beat just didn't finish. And how about tonight we hit free throws and defend the 3? Not to mention the great officiating especially in the 4th. Way too early for this .
Lol what a stupid thread
No trading away Scola for peanuts. Spurs definitely could have used Scola during the years that Manu, Tim and Parker all were out and playing with injuries.
OK maybe Baynes was too expensive but regardless this team needs a backup C badly, that was my main point. The starting 5 is great, LMA does need to lose a little weight and Green needs to find his shot again, but no backup C will hurt against teams like Chicago and OKC, the 2 PF system might cause problems come playoff time.
that could have cost a championship
Aldridge addition makes spurs number 1 defensive team. Haynes had no offensive existence...so..
Legit thread.
Staggering Duncan and Aldridge to minimize the amount of time West and Diaw are paired together is the best thing we can do. We also got Boban in the wings for spot minutes when we need a big. Whatever his issues may be, he's good for 5-10 mins of being a paint presence.
I don't see it that way. His was simply a case of being priced out of being reasonable to keep. Not being able to come to terms with stephen jackson after the 03 championship was the only major mistake they have made, in my mind. That being said Jackson was easily just as at fault for that fiasco.
CoJo instead of Jimmy Butler isn't the biggest mistake?
Ummm
Trading away Luis Scola to get some dump of a center
, man, was OP born yesterday? It's Luis Scola.
It's actually signing Jackie Butler in the first place so they couldn't afford Scola.
think you meant to say Splitter, Tiago. regardless, don't need a back up C vs. OKC (Kanter is a joke) and Chicago won't make it past Cleveland
That was a huge one. The Spurs where actually had internal debates about KL versus Jimmy Butler. They made the right choice but could have had both! Of course then no LMA because of cap space..
That is a good point. The whole Jackie Butler Scola thing is a lot more complicated than most realize. TIMVP wrote about a while back. Scola had only 1 summer where he could sign with the NBA and Spurs couldn't offer enough to help offset his buyout. Yao Ming got him a Chinese shoe contract. The Spurs tried to trade his rights for something more substantial, however no one was interested. A lot of GMs did not think his game would translate well to the NBA.
Parker's current contract
holy overpayment
Bam! But a LOT of people were high on Butler that summer. I remember reading articles talking about how the Spurs had gotten the steal of the offseason. Who knew he was going to take his contract and retire?
Missing Jimmy Butler, in favor of CoJo? That kind of talk is always easy in hindsight. How about missing Isaiah Thomas at 59? Those thing aren't mistakes unless you have a crystal ball.
Yeah, getting a guy who sticks in the NBA from the end of the first round is almost a crap shoot.
Might as well lament not signing Ben Wallace as a rookie free agent.
