Might as well trade LMA for Ryan Anderson and Asik while we're at it.
Two players that are known cancers. You wonder why the Clips are wanting to trade them. Smith should have stayed with the Rockets and Lance should have taken the Pacers deal. Nobody really wants them at this point. I literally wouldn't trade anyone on the roster for Smith, maybe Bonner. Lance, well he is just a headcase and the Spurs don't need that right now as they are just starting to gel with want they have.
Surprisingly, it got worse after this.
Better: could the Spurs give the Clippers $3 million to keep Smith and Stephenson the rest of the season? Those guys are going to sink the whole team.
What about as buy out candidates?
Basically, would you ditch butler or Simmons, or maybe Ray, for the knuckleheads?
I'd be for it if they both weren't huge gots.
The Spurs would not have ring #5 if not for Diaw. Not "might not have" - they would not have ring #5. I'm not saying that he was the best player on the team, just that they couldn't have gotten it done without him. The Spurs were in danger of being knocked out of the playoffs until Pop put Diaw in the lineup. Strangely, most people don't know that Diaw was the Spurs' assist leader for the entire Finals that year. I can say with no hesitation that it would have to be a MUCH jucier trade that this one, before Pop would let Diaw get away. Those two guy have IQ's roughly the same as their shoe sizes. In case you haven't noticed, stupid players don't fare well on Pop's team.
Clips are trying to trade their only wing defender and a big that signed on the cheap? Doubt it.
Adding two known headcases to a team that was already a basketcase. Gee, Clippers, how else was that gonna work out???
Giving up Diaw to get the great piece that is Josh ing Smith.
Spurs need neither. them both.
The only thing interesting about this thread is that the Clippers are already imploding. I also wonder how Pierce is fitting in...
We already have a cheaper Stephenson in Simmons, tbh. I'm good on him.
Wouldn't give up Diaw for Smith neither, nope. West is untradeable just because he gave up 11M to join the Spurs. Who else would LAC want for Smith? Kyle? Nah.
Clipper and Warriors are exhibits A and B of why continuity is the way to go most of the time, the Warriors are the same as last year and have hit the ground running and wrecking most of the league, the Clippers adjusted their formula and are in much worse shape for it. This has been the Spurs secret sauce for the last 10 years. The Spurs while eventually (hopefully) will be better for it, if this Spurs team played a version of the Spurs where we didn't get LMA and West but kept the guys that were here last year, right now that version would win. They know each other and the offense inside and out and the system while the current version while beginning to gel isn't the well oiled machine that the previous version is...yet. I have no doubt once it does it will be a much superior product but right now it is not.
To be fair, Smith was a big part of Houston's success last year.
That being said, I don't think there's any need for him here considering our frontcourt is already loaded. And I sure as wouldn't trade Diaw for him![]()
So you wanna trade:
- a team player who is an excellent passer, set picks, moves well without the ball, does the opposite of chucking shots, spreads the floor, is a mismatch for most teams in the league, has a high basketball IQ, knows the system and is a very liked teammate...
for
- a player who is now in his 30s, shooting 25.6% from 3, a bad passer, has low IQ and a questionable at ude
just because he's "athletic"?
Thank god the Spurs FO isn't run by some of the fans...
It reveals a lot when the Rockets refused to pick up a one year contract with Smith despite his supposed success with the team.
He was an unrestricted free agent last summer. Houston did not hold an option on Smith.
OP should be pinkedif there's anyone the Spurs can trade to improve the 15-man roster, it's Anderson, but everyone else belongs on the team
There's a lot of truth in this.
And it's one of the reason Dallas fail most of the time....too many ing changes.
I wouldn't touch both with a 10 foot pole, tbh..
Eh, so early in the season? They want to get rid of two of their prized acquisitions? What a disaster!
