I remember the foul trouble, but I don't think that was it. My guess it was more at ude and overall BBIQ.
Dude, the problem with Ian was he just didn't have the BB IQ to play in the Spurs system. The guy couldn't pass and he was a fouling magnet. Ian has learned to foul less over the years and fits the Pacers system much more. Its a more slow tempo ISO ball offense.
Boban is an amazing passer and he doesn't foul that often. Plus his BB IQ is up there with Manu and Diaw's. I am sure Pop has told him keep developing and he will have a larger role. West might not be back next year and that means Boban could be Duncan's direct backup. And when Duncan retires, Boban will become the starter next to LMA. I am sure the Spurs have laid out what plans they have for him. Green, Kawhi, Diaw, Manu etc have said the Spurs mgt. have laid out plans for them before resigning them. That is why the Spurs retain their players.

7.9 PF per 36. Ian was at 6.9 PF per 36 during his time with the Spurs.
That was my guess too.
I guess it seems less b/c the Pacers only play him like 20-25 minutes a night. I remember the dude avg like 9 fouls a contest in the SL.
That 7.9PF per 36 is Boban this year. He's fouling more than Ian ever did.
Oh, I didn't realize he fouls this much. He usually plays in garbage time and I notice he pickups like 2 fouls in the 8-10 minutes he is out there. Plus Ian's fouls were just horrendous. He would mugged guys and push guys purposely on their drives and post ups. It was like he thought he was playing BB on the playground or something. Boban's fouls are more touch fouls and can easily be corrected with some proper coaching.
I hope so. I'm as intrigued by Boban as any Spurs fan, but he's played less than 10 NBA minutes outside of garbage time. I look forward to seeing him in some real game situations.
The problem with Ian was not fouling it was he was made out Of China the dude was always hurt which off course had a big impact on his development
Me too. Boban getting time with playmakers like Boris, Manu and Kyle would be fun to watch.
He needs to stop swiping down at the ball on contests. I seem to recall at least two of his fouls last night could have been avoided if he'd done the usual Spursian arms-straight-up contest. He's so big, he doesn't need to swipe down.
He's always going to have a relatively high foul rate because he's so big and noticeable. But he should be able to cut it in half and stay on the court. He's a smart guy, so I suspect he'll get it.
Victim of small sample size maybe?
Undoubtedly.
I agree with you the reason Ian Mahinmi isn't with the Spurs despite having the athleticism and typical Spurs nice guy is that he had zero BB IQ.
Regarding, Boban, he's a good passer and has a good touch. He's got limitations on how fast his feet move or how high he can jump, these can never be fixed. But there are aspects in his game that can be improved. His foot work and how he handles and catches the ball are two that I see that can improve. I would like to see him hold the ball with two hands and hold the ball higher to avoid steals.
Last game he scored 18 points on 8-10 shooting (that's a 90% fg percentage). He did this in 17 minutes of play! Despite 8-10, the referees aren't calling fouls against him. He's being manhandled down low, but considering his size, all the little guys are getting a free pass.
Boban with Duncans tutelage is going to get very good very quickly.
A miss was a foul where he scored 2 points from the free throw line. Thus 90%.
Nice try, but a player who misses while being fouled in the act of shooting is not charged with a FGA.
Mel's straight unstoppable in this thread.
I was researching Marfan Syndrome.
Um... oh wow.
18 points on 10 attempts... effectively 90%. You are right, the attempt with a foul doesn't count as an attempt.
That would be his true adjusted FG%, which takes into account FT%, 3pt % etc. along with a player 2pt %.
Boban's TS% last night was 82.7%.

Hey, I was caught the tail end of Sportscenter this morning, and the female anchor closed the show with an apology. She said that the comments she made earlier in the show about the Spurs' Boban Marjanovic were made in poor taste. Then the guy anchor apologized as well. Does anyone know what she said?
Ian's developed into a good NBA player but to this day he still fouls too much to be a Spur. Bomar may end up with the same problem.
