Eh. Danny Green was the one screwing the pooch on D all game for the most part. I'm having serious second thoughts on that hefty $10m/year contract, tbh
Yes, because one poor defensive performance invalidates 3+ years of good to great defensive play and three point shooting. Ha!

Not sure who's overreaction is dumber between you or the OP.

Wow. Had I not known the Spurs won last night, and just came on here, I'd have assumed they lost(and lost bad). WTF is wrong with some of you?

you don't give lifetime award contracts. You pay the guy based on your expectations of how they will perform during the year(s) of the new contract. Ask the Eagles how they feel about DeMarco Murray.

Danny's contract was the opposite of a lifetime achievement contract. He's struggling this season, but his contract was extremely team friendly.

Even if it was below market value at the time it seems to be well above it now. You don't pay 8 figures per year for a guy who is a high-volume 29% three point shooter with a very limited offensive game and often plays well defensively but still has frequent lapses such as fouling shooters, blowing assignments and cheating under screens.

Even if it was below market value at the time
Contracts are signed at the time. Everything else is hindsight.

TD & LMA were great out there. Scary to think what their ceiling is offensively when they fully figure out each other's games. The high low action was awesome.

The hack-a was AWFUL in the third quarter. Not only are you opting to give them 1 PPP as you correctly note (possibly more if giving up OReb, though Deandre at line minimizes the chance at that) when Austin Rivers is on the floor with scrubs, but you're letting CP3 who was VISIBLY tired get extra minutes to rest. Each DJ FT sequence is like an extra minute of game rest.

In the fourth, once they got into early foul trouble I was fine doing that once the starters were back in. Smart strategy then, as starters are way better than 1 PPP.
You must have watched a different game than I did. In the game I watched, DeAndre shot 8-20, or, 40%. That equates to 0.8 ppp, or, mother ing ELITE defense. Chrissy Paul can rest all he wants during FTs, as long as the ball is taken out of his hands.

I didn't realize he was below 40% this year, which is just about what Austin Rivers shoots. I'm not opposed to hack-a, but prefer to let the clock run with CP3 off floor and minimize his rest when there are checkers out there who can lead to fast breaks the other way (which you don't get from FT).

Hack away when CP3, Blake or even Red are on the floor.

DJ's career mark is 39.7, and he's shooting right at 39 this year. It is not an aberration. We're not even close to the only team that does this to the LAC. He's routinely near the top of the FTA chart every year.

Right - there's a huge difference between 50% (Whiteside, Howard, etc.) and 40% or less (Drummond and Jordan are the only two that qualify). The worst teams in the league offensively - Lakers and Sixers - are around 50% true shooting %, which considers free throws. So hacking the former group drags their offense down to those levels.

Drummond & Jordan are borderline unplayable against a smart team, assuming you have bodies to throw at the other team and foul. The Spurs are one of the few teams deep enough 1-13 (of players dressed) to be able to throw all of its players on the court without bogging down its offense. When you're only 7-8 deep, foul trouble becomes a concern. But if you can use up Rasual Butler, Simmons, Anderson, Bonner, etc. fouls and they're not complete zeroes on the offensive end, it's a huge advantage.
