    he's been waived or what?
Yes he was. His contract was only partially guaranteed next season.

I don't think he fits. Not a rim protector, can't shoot and has a low BBIQ. There's a reason why he wasn't in GS rotation when with Bogut and Ezeli out.

Spurs would have to dump Bonner for Jason Thompson. That is not going to happen. He will probably want a team that offers more playing time.

If Joe Johnson is waived, which I highly doubt, you go for him IMO. Still a decent scorer. Granted haven't watched him much, but he's an upgrade over Anderson and Simmon's.

    Probably Thompson.

I get the logic of Varejao picking them, but I still view it as a smack in the face and as such, would no longer pursue him in the summer, as a potential West replacement.

I think the Spurs pursuit was more an indication that they're uncertain of Duncan's health for the remainder of the season, than having another option to break up the West-Diaw pairing.
Varejao is one of the least reliable players in the entire NBA, I'm happy the Spurs didn't waste a roster spot on him. If Bonner is physically done then the team should drop him and look for youth/depth inside for the future. No one they pick up (minus Joe Johnson) is going to crack Pop's playoff rotation or make a difference in winning the 6th LOB.

What indications make you constantly fret about Duncan's health? Could his poor play - mostly on the offensive end of the court - be mostly do to his advanced age and not this "Chicken Little" worrying about his knee?

His resurgence wasn't going to last forever, but thankfully Pop had the forethought to finally bring adequate help (West & Aldridge) an older, slower, "role playing" version of Tim Duncan. Obviously, we would all love to have that young, nimble athletic replacement waiting in the wings but that ain't happening....

How desperate are the Spurs for an athletic forward?

Scorer mentality, substance abuse issues, does not play defense, is out of position often, known to be low BBIQ and lazy. I don't think Spurs even look at that guy. He had major talent, but couldn't stick anywhere. I don't think that is the kind of reclamation project we want. Would much rather get one if our stashed projects if it comes to that.

Always kinda been a fan of Franklin. I think with the right development he could be a nice rotation player.

So Scotty "delusional" Hopson is playing in China

I still remember his interview as a prospect. Absolutely great to get a good laugh.

    I always liked Dorell Wright.

    Shams Charania @ShamsCharania
Free agent JJ Hickson is in advanced discussions on a deal with the Washington Wizards for rest of season, league sources tell The Vertical.

Also on the Dorell Wright front, maybe Aldridge has some insight on him during their time together in Portland. Plus he has been linked to the Spurs in the past.

I don't care that they didn't sign him either. It's more about, it should be viewed as more of a privilege to play for this organization than any other. It's one thing if the money/role were going to be significantly different, but the money is the same and the role will be too, when Ezeli returns. He essentially picked them because he thought they had a better chance to win the championship. Nothing wrong with that, but when he's begging for a job on a contender in the off season and attempts to circle back to the Spurs, if I'm them, I'm not returning his agents call.

It could be due to advanced age, but the fact that Duncan looked similar to himself, in recent seasons, early this season, leads me to believe it's more about his knee. As evidenced by the defensive slide in recent weeks, both without him and with him barely playing, Aldridge and West are not "adequate help", since neither can anchor a defense.

No need for Wright when Butler is already on the team and clearly has more in the tank.

Didn't Scotty Hopson drop 50 in a D-League game last year? Shame he's such an idiot he can play.

Big Dummy, elaborate "explicitly" why PATFO wouldn't have dumped 's expiring contract if it was JUST about saving money & clearing cap space to sign Tiago.

    Chump:

    Chump:
Because they would have had to pay dearly. Warriors dumped RJ, together with Biedrins to Utah for 2 first round picks ( unprotected! ) and 2 seconds. Obviously things turned out great for them, but they paid a premium in cash and assets for RJ's short time there.

    Luxury tax.

    Kawhitstorm:
Easy to spend someone else's millions, isn't it
