He denounced the David Duke endorsement the day before, and he couldn't clearly hear the question that has brought about all the controversy.
Not that I've seen. I've seen where he denounced them before since 1991 but not the day before. That is what makes his comment about "not knowing anything about Duke" so obviously pandering. It was the southern primary after all.

White Nationalist Scores Press Credentials, Interview With Trump Jr.

    By
    ALLEGRA KIRKLANDPublishedMARCH 2, 2016, 11:31 AM EST

The host of an “unapologetically pro-White” radio program received press credentials from the Donald Trump campaign at a rally last weekend in Memphis, Tennessee, according to a blog post flagged by Little Green Footballs.

James Edwards, the host of the “Political Cesspool” show, wrote a glowing blog post describing his positive experience at the Millington Regional Airport event, where he recorded an episode of his show from within the press pen. Photos interspersed throughout the post show Edwards beaming with a Trump media badge pinned to his suit jacket, as well as other reporters in the cordoned-off press area who he describes as “the enforcers of political correctness.”
“I must admit that this rally lived up to my expectation,” Edwards wrote in the post.

“I’ve been saying for years on the radio that the majority of Americans fundamentally agree with us on the issues and that the neocons were generals of a phantom army," he continued. "I am being proven right. Our people just needed a viable candidate and they’ve identified Trump as that man. There is no doubt that Trump’s populism and nationalism is galvanizing our nation and may change the course of American history for the better right before our very eyes.”

Edwards also notes that he will air a previously recorded 20-minute interview with Donald Trump, Jr. on his show on Saturday.

The Trump campaign did not immediately respond Wednesday to TPM's request for comment.

The Political Cesspool’s mission statement outlines a hard-right ideology that rejects “abortion, feminism, and sexuality” and calls “to grow the percentage of Whites in the world relative to other races.” Archived blog posts celebrate Edwards’ efforts to preserve Confederate monuments in Memphis, Tennessee and refer to interracial sex as “white genocide.”

Edwards is openly dismissive of the concept of racism—he is the author a book called “Racism, Schmacism”—though his blog posts frequently extoll the natural superiority of white Americans.

He shared an op-ed from the Jamaican Observer in praise of slavery in an August blog post, commenting, “For blacks in the Americas, slavery is the greatest thing that ever happened to them.”

Trump has faced intensifying scrutiny for his reluctance to disavow white supremacists who have publicly embraced his campaign. A white nationalist super PAC has launched robocalls in several early voting states urging voters to vote for the real estate mogul to prevent the “white race” from “dying out,” while David Duke, the former Ku Klux Klan grand wizard, has called electing Trump “the best thing we can do.”

After initially telling CNN that he was unfamiliar with the KKK—an oversight he blamed on a “lousy earpiece”—Trump “disavowed” the group and Duke several times this week.

Still, the campaign allowed Edwards, who has hosted Duke on his show, to receive press credentials at the Memphis rally.

The GOP candidate often devotes several minutes of his rallies to railing against the “dishonest” reporters covering his campaign, and his staffers have denied access to journalists fromUnivision, Fusion, the Des Moines Register, and the Huffington Post for what they see as overly critical coverage.

Trump requires the press to be sequestered in a gated-off section at all campaign events. When a Time magazine photographer stepped outside the media pen to take pictures of a group of protesters at a rally this week, he was tackled to the ground by a Secret Service agent. At the same Virginia event, Trump vowed to “open libel laws,” making it easier to sue journalists.

He has disavowed it several times and they keep playing the same video.
Losers on the left, and they think they got something.

Seems like Trump answered it well. Trump didn't "refused" to disavow. He said he needed more information before making that determination.

When did Fuzzy Stupid start believing everything "several GOP leaders" said?
When it agrees with his confirmation bias, like all other matters.

Tapper, Feb. 28: I want to ask you about the Anti-Defamation League, which this week called on you to publicly condemn unequivocally the racism of former KKK grand wizard David Duke, who recently said that voting against you at this point would be treason to your heritage. Will you unequivocally condemn David Duke and say that you don’t want his vote or that of other white supremacists in this election?

Trump: Well, just so you understand, I don’t know anything about David Duke. OK? I don’t know anything about what you’re even talking about with white supremacy or white supremacists. So, I don’t know.
Tapper: OK. I mean, I’m just talking about David Duke and the Ku Klux Klan here, but…

Trump: I don’t know any — honestly, I don’t know David Duke. I don’t believe I have ever met him. I’m pretty sure I didn’t meet him. And I just don’t know anything about him.
    Here is Trump in 2000:

Ventura, Feb. 11, 2000: I can’t stay within a national party that, you know, that could well have Pat Buchanan as its presidential nominee. And now the latest word, I hear he’s getting support from David Duke. Well, I can’t be part of that.
    more

Lauer, Feb. 14, 2000: When you say the party is self-destructing, what do you see as the biggest problem with the Reform Party right now?

Trump: Well, you’ve got David Duke just joined — a bigot, a racist, a problem. I mean, this is not exactly the people you want in your party. Buchanan’s a disaster as we’ve, you know, covered. Jesse’s a terrific guy who just left the party. And he, you know, it’s unfortunate, but he just left the party. He’s going to be doing his Independence Party from Minnesota.
New York Times, Feb. 14, 2000: Mr. Trump painted a fairly dark picture of the Reform Party in his statement, noting the role of Mr. Buchanan, along with the roles of David Duke, a former leader of the Ku Klux Klan, and Lenora Fulani, the former standard-bearer of the New Alliance Party and an advocate of Marxist-Leninist politics.

“The Reform Party now includes a Klansman, Mr. Duke, a neo-Nazi, Mr. Buchanan, and a communist, Ms. Fulani,” he said in his statement. “This is not company I wish to keep.”
King, Nov. 19, 1991: Did the David Duke thing bother you? Fifty-five percent of the whites in Louisiana voted for him.

    Trump: I hate —

King: Four hundred New Yorkers contributed.

Trump: I hate seeing what it represents, but I guess it just shows there’s a lot of hostility in this country. There’s a tremendous amount of hostility in the United States.

    King: Anger?

Trump: It’s anger. I mean, that’s an anger vote. People are angry about what’s happened. People are angry about the jobs. If you look at Louisiana, they’re really in deep trouble. When you talk about the East Coast — it’s not the East Coast. It’s the East Coast, the middle coast, the West Coast —

King: If he runs and Pat Buchanan runs [for president in 1992], might you see a really divided vote?

Trump: Well, I think if they run, or even if David Duke — I mean, George Bush was very, very strong against David Duke. I think if he had it to do again, he might not have gotten involved in that campaign because I think David Duke now, if he runs, takes away almost exclusively Bush votes and then a guy like Cuomo runs — I think Cuomo can win the election.

King: But Bush morally had to come out against him.

Trump: I think Bush had to come out against him. I think Bush — if David Duke runs, David Duke is going to get a lot of votes. Whether that be good or bad, David Duke is going to get a lot of votes. Pat Buchanan — who really has many of the same theories, except it’s in a better package — Pat Buchanan is going to take a lot of votes away from George Bush. So if you have these two guys running, or even one of them running, I think George Bush could be in big trouble.
The earpiece excuse does not explain those quotes. Condemning it after the southern primary is just kinda the point of pandering.

He wasn't a lefty. He was a DINO, serving in Congress way before, and way after, southern RACIST DEMs were recruited to be, switched to being southern RACIST Repugs.

Pandering is the act of expressing one's views in accordance with the likes of a group to which one is attempting to appeal. The term is most notably associated with politics. In pandering, the views one is expressing are merely for the purpose of drawing support up to and including votes and do not necessarily reflect one's personal values.

Pandering is essentially a reaction of panic in elected officials who must either tailor their views to public opinion or risk losing their existing or potential seat.

Since Trump clearly didn't do that he was not pandering. But you know that.
