I remember one time reading or seeing something about Holt's affinity for cigarettes... this was like 10 years ago...

Everyone gives credit to POP, RC, Duncan...and rightly so. But, Holt is the unsung force behind all of the Spurs success. Without him, Spurs would be...

I hope everything is ok. And his wife does sound excited and involved, which I consider a good thing. Not selling the team.

I need a Peter Holt jersey

Somebody with more connections than I have probably knows how this works, but isn't it true that Holt's ownership is not total, and that there are any number of smaller investors with minor positions in the team? I wonder if any of them will move to try to take over the team, jointly or with new investors.

Does anyone know for sure what percentage ownership the Holt's have?

The Spurs currently have one PRIMARY owner (Holt). They could be numerous minority owners such as Pop/RC w/ like 1% stake.

Basically life expectancy, folks with early onset Alzheimer can function & live a normal life for a couple of years without poisoning their body (unlike cancer patients) to stay alive.
Alzheimer's is a much worse fate tbh.

Well, there is assisted suicide if folks don't want to deal w/ the late stage conditions. The average male past 70 is most likely to die of heart attack anyways so he might not even make it to the later stage.

that, & prostate cancer (though that usually takes 8-10+ years to kill)

I agree. If I had to make a choice between dying of Alzheimers or pancreas cancer, I'd go with the cancer. You may get some years in with Alzheimers but when you become debilitated, you are no longer you. You belong to someone else. I'd rather die than be a vegetable in a nursing home. With pancreas cancer, yea you'll die sooner but at least you can die with some dignity.

I'd rather protect my health starting at an early age (i.e. mid 20s) so neither of those things happen tbh.

I don't have any evidence but when Holt is mentioned on ESPN or something, they say he is the chairman of the ownership group that owns a majority share of the Spurs. I've always interpreted that as there is an ownership group that owns 50%+ of the Spurs and they picked Holt as the chairman so he represents the ownership of the Spurs.

It is likely that Holt and his wife own the largest shares of the Spurs but I am not certain if they own more than 50% by themselves.

Seriously, this is a big deal no? Even if we don't notice any immediate impact, you would have to think this could trigger some serious change down the not-so-far road. Between spending, power struggles, and possible sale of the team? Makes me nervous.

You are talking about a change in ownership, possible retirement of Duncan/Gino and then not too long after TP/Pop. That's a ton of change in what could amount to 4-5 years.
I don't think it will be too big of a change. Apparently Holt's wife is already active within the organization, just behind the scenes. The ownership shares still remain the same. Holt's wife still owns the same amount of shares that she had yesterday. And I'm not sure if Holt and his wife even own an outright majority of the team. The rest of the ownership group can still install a hands-off guy if things don't work out.

Pop will remain with the Spurs even after he retires as head coach, most likely making president of basketball operations his full time job like Phil Jackson. RC Buford will still remain the GM of the Spurs as well. The front office should be stable even as the HOFers retire.

Hope Peter is ok. It would suck if it was life threatening.

Holy , such huge changes this past year. The Duncan era really is coming to an end. And the Warriors godammit! Spurs have to crush that boy band and get Numero 6!

Peter Holt is a Republican who has donated to the Rick Perry campaign. During the last round of CBA negotiations, he was notoriously quoted as having said that the players "haven't suffered enough." His political views couldn't be further from mine.

Despite that, I have genuine respect and admiration for the man. He built the greatest franchise in professional sports from the ground up and we are extremely fortunate to have had him as Spurs Chairman & CEO these past two decades. Peter, you will be missed.

Damn....Holt drew a lot of unnecessary ire from fans with his reluctance to push the cap...but he's really been one of the best owners in sports and is well regarded around the league.

Get well soon and thanks for everything, Holt.

Let's get this one for P.H.!

Thank you for your time Peter Holt, best front office in the league! Peter, Rc and Pop made this run, every one of them deserves credit.

One thing I would say that stuck out about him to me was his ability to let Pop and RC do their jobs without interfering.
