It's one thread. For me, nothing better I can do with my hour this Sunday than try to make someone understand they can be better.

None of us really know each other and we all interact. What's the big deal if 1% of that time we actually try to help someone who's clearly got some issues. A lot of people (myself included) could probably benefit from having someone talk some sense into us.
Yeah but 4-8 people constantly asking questions in this setting isn't helping anyone including UNT. If it was a 1 on 1 maybe. But this is a witch hunt. Just look at the le of the thread.

Not about me bruh - the point of saying what I did was not about me, but to show you it's definitely possible to work, go to school and still have fun (my fun was soccer, but it also took a ton of time - practice every day, travel across country, game days, etc..)

Of course, I had to take out loans like many people and had debt, but if you are working, then not much else to say. If you have a job, it's all good. You are at least doing what you can do.

I guess just stop being an a-hole You don't have to go to an IVY League school - the fact you are in school and apparently working is cool. It would have been harder obviously to go to the school you wanted and have to make up that 12K, but it was not impossible. Don't fool yourself into thinking that. But you made your decision - now make it the right one .

Well, it's no different than him acting like an idiot. Online, especially ST, you will get called out and he's no different. Him welshing is on him and this is a small punishment for acting how he does.

The fact it's turning into a conversation beyond the welshing is a good thing IMO.

Agreed. Though I don't see a problem with a little e-welching. Real life is another story

My classes are NOT online, but half my work is online. It's grading about 300 Java programs every week. Doesn't take quite 10 hours most of the time but it's a pain in the ass.

And I do need to budget 9 hours of sleep... anything less than 8 on the nose and I'm REALLY groggy and want to fall asleep within 15 minutes of arriving to campus. And even that isn't always quite enough if I've been behind. I also have a hard time getting to sleep sometimes, but once I'm asleep I have a hard time waking up when I'm supposed to in the morning or daytime. I'm a big day sleeper, I'll admit it, especially when the weather is hot or raining outside all I want to do is sleep. in' Texas, man. I'm a natural-blooded night owl, though.

    Edit: Computer science/decision analytics
Ah, I see. I'm sort of the same way except I only need 4-5 hours, but I'd much rather stay up til 3am than get up 6 am, you know? Have you ever considered coffee or caffiene pills to help you power through the grogginess? There's already not enough hours in the day, I don't think getting 9 hours of sleep is realistic if you want to get everything done. I mean you've done fine so far I suppose(graduating soon I'm assuming), so take my advice as you will.

Did Splits make a payment deadline in his bet?

If he didn't, UNT can just keep saying next week and so on.

Incorrect. Can't speak for Harvard, but let's take a look at Stanford, for instance:

    Estimated Costs
    Tuition and Fees 45,729
    Room and Board 14,107
    Personal/Books and Supplies 5,064
    Total Costs 64,900
    Scholarship/Grant Aid
    Estimated Scholarship/Grant (Learn more ») 52,100
Net Price (Costs less Scholarship/Grant Aid)
Estimated Net Price (Learn more ») 12,800
Anticipated Resources to Meet Net Price
    Estimated Parent Contribution 0
Estimated Student Contribution (Learn more ») 10,000
Student Academic Year Job (Learn more ») 2,800
Estimated Student Loan (Learn more ») 0

That's after entering my mom's income of $26,000 in 2012 and my own income of $0 in 2012. How the would I pay the $12,800?
Room and board plus personal / books & supplies are $19k. You have to pay for room and board anyway (are you not going to sleep somewhere and eat?) and can get used books or share. So tuition is still technically free and you're on the hook for expenses over $7k. Not a bad deal.

And if not, $50k of loans from Stanford ain't too bad. Many people are far worse off.

Meals are $11 at the dining hall? They're not even that expensive near my office in Manhattan. And that's not the Manhattan in Kansas. Doesn't mean I can't grab cheaper food and make my own meals though.

I do applaud you for working on campus though. Not easy to do while juggling class work and looking for internships / full time job. It goes a long way too - I hire the person who worked themselves through school 10x out of 10 over the kid with the silver spoon (all else being equal).

Welshing is welshing, but you know that. And if you didn't, now you do and hopefully taking bets is not something you will do anymore.

But this goes beyond that. You act like a complete jack ass on here (you are not alone). Then when you talk about your real life (not sure if it is or not) it sheds some serious light on why you may be having the issues you are having.

Again, you are probably trolling and that's fine. But in case you are not, I didn't want to not say something in the event it resonated for some reason as unlikely as that might be.

Also, he said he worked and then reported a 0 income. So he's likely lying. Again, not surprised, but I tend to err on the side of caution.

After a bunch of issues in high school with catching tons of colds due to sleep deprivation, it has been determined that the one thing I can't sacrifice anymore is sleep. And it's helped with that, since I only average about 3 colds per academic year these days instead of 7.0 colds per year throughout my 4 years of high school. Usually when I catch a cold it means 2 weeks or longer of misery for me, so I try to avoid that.

As for the grogginess, coffee/Monster/Red Bull et al. actually makes me more tired and gives me a stomach ache. So I try to avoid that as well.

What are you doing? If you make a bet, there should not be a deadline, it's assumed that once the result is in, you pay your debt in a reasonable time. Just saying "no timeline, I'm going to pay next week" is really, really stupid.

What do you mean? I didn't work in 2012... I've only worked this year and last year in college. My first job ever wasn't until the start of the 2014-15 academic year.

I wasn't talking about going to Stanford NOW, I was talking about directly after high school.
