What I noticed from watching the Spurs games this season is that they are hiding tricks up their sleeve throughout the season and saving it for the playoffs. I can't explain it but I can just tell from their body language in the games.
I think so too.... Everything is irrelevant right now tho. It all depends on health, we all know that. If we're 100%, I still think we're the best team once the games start to count. Warriors still haven't beaten an elite team in a playoff series, either.

Its not just the losses that I was pointing to. Its how they have played overall against some of the better teams. They don't look as strong as years in the past. Its just an observation. As I have said I hope that I am dead wrong and that they meet Golden State in the WCF and win.

Even Tony Parker came out and said something like that a couple weeks ago.

In 2014 they lost a lot of games to elite teams then win the le anyway. So what the is the point here?
2014 didn't have anyone close to the level of this year's Warriors. That's the problem.

Here we go again. When the Spurs won the le back in 2014, they started with a record of 4-9 against the West top 4 teams (well top 5 as the Spur had a top 4 record themselves). Spurs went on to finish like 13-9 against these teams as they turned in up at the end of Feb and Pop quit experimenting.

Pop does this every year. He experiments against these teams early, especially on the road. I get it. Its better to find out what matchups work and don't work in the regular season rather in the playoffs. And this pattern results in a lot of losses early by the Spurs against the top teams in the NBA especially in the WC.
Pop has more new rotation players, including the big guy, LMA. Plus he is playing TWO young guys more than I ever remember. He seems to know that this team has so much talent that he can spend even more time than usual with his experiments. Consequently, we are seeing more close games until we put the pedal to the metal. Plus, as other posters have noted, we definitely seem to be holding back a lot of stuff in the Xs & Os department.

The fact that the Spurs have lost to the best teams is troubling. Yet as has been mentioned, as in 2014, the playoffs are different from the regular season.

What I don't understand on this forum is why guys can't just discuss the topic, without attacking the person who makes a statement.

Why the need to put others down? What do you get out of it?

I guess it's too much to hope for, to think that this kind of childish behavior will change.

Exactly. However, its been like this for awhile seems like. When I first joined the forum 10 years ago, it wasn't this bad. You had your internet tough guys here and there, but not like the way it is today. Doesn't bother me though.

Spurs do have a horrible record vs the handful of better teams, but starting next month, the Spurs have plenty of chances to show if their great record indicates a great team, or NBA Champion of the crappy teams.

It looks to me, that POP has changed this team because of the early season losses to better teams. Sitting Duncan and Kawhi I think was more of a strategic move and in response to those losses. Enabling him to see what these newer players strengths and weakness's were on their own...and how best to use them. I think the newer players also learned some things about themselves during that stretch. I wouldn't be surprised if Duncan was in on this too.

I saw a different Spurs team out there against UTAH last night. It's not the "beautiful" game we saw in 2014...but, maybe it's what we need. I dunno....been an interesting season so far. lol

They did look better after that slow start in the 1st quarter. A definite step in the right direction.

Nothing misleading about the record. The NBA level this season, generally speaking, was . Half the teams tanking.

Add that you stop doing what brought you here, and you finish games with midget cuck West against two 7 footers, and you'll get different results.

Totally misleading. They fattened up on the easiest schedule in the league, mostly in the first half, before the bottom fell out on the veterans.

But as I said months ago, something felt off all along. People got caught up in the names and not their current games and the fact that this team was playing a style totally out of touch with the rest of the league. Slow pace (beyond they often look unsure of what they want to do), post ups, mid rangers; this is the exact opposite of the way the game is played today.

Historic defense or not, when you already don't get to the line, you can't be 25th and 26th in 3-point attempts/makes.

Our rebounding differential in this series is probably going to be close to record-setting. That's really the game and series right there. You can't play midgets or guys that can't rebound like Boris, especially for extended periods of time.

IMO, that's all on Pop. We should beat this OKC team, we're just going all wrong about it. You can't give them that kind of advantages and then turn around and wonder why you lost.

True. But the reality is, outside of Leonard, Aldridge, Green and the games Parker somewhat turns back the clock, this team is trash right now. Even with Leonard's continued ascent and the addition of Aldridge, they were never going to out star the other four elite teams. They still needed to out depth them, only they no longer can.

Not really, but people thought what I wrote was a joke or me losing my mind. There are too many homers on this board who don't like to accept the truth. I still think there's a small chance to win this series, but they're going to need a Game 1 performance or something similar to win Game 6.

We got screwed over 2 times by the refs and we even had 2 double digit leads in the last 2 games and even had a short lead in the 1st quarter. Any blame should go to the coach and not the players got. We had Championship players. Beta Coach.
