You think the Spurs would seriously consider replacing TD with a slow AF 7' 3" center who can't rebound or protect the rim to save his life? Is this forum getting dumber by the second because it sure feels that way.
Did you see me say replace? I said Tim is probably planning on retiring so they might have more space to keep Boban. I'm well aware of Bobans shortcomings.

The problem with the board is there are a bunch of dolts that can't read context into someone's posts.

Boban is insignificant in every way imaginable and he'll cost next to nothing to retain. What does that have to do with TD?

He's an adequate back-up that's certain to cost more than he cost last year. He'll get offers for more. Question was, is he worth more to PATFO? Under the space they have with Timmy on the payroll, the answer is no. If, however, Timmy retires, then perhaps Boban is worth a bit more.

An adequate back up for who? A rookie (by NBA standards) Center who can't rebound or rim protect equal a less experienced David West. He's basically a 3rd string C who can play spot minutes during the regular season but won't sniff a postseason rotation. If Duncan retires and the Spurs use that money to re-sign Boban, the PATFO will need a new nickname.

Not excited about Boban.. his biggest impact was to dominate 3rd string centers to pad the team's stats in garbage time.

Diaw might be useful if he goes to fat camp in the summer.

Tony will never, ever get traded.

I hope West stays and does whatever he can that doesn't make him look done. I hope he wins a ring in SA.

Overall, not really excited about next season though.. looks like a 1st / 2nd round exit right now.

As I said in the Boban main thread, I hope it's a deal similar to Beli's where the Spurs could fit it into either the room exception or the MLE. That way, they could go into the summer without having to worry about where Boban's contract fit into the cap. If that happens, there aren't many better ways to use the room exception, and if it's the MLE, the Spurs would still have plenty of money to bring in Bertans on a multi-year deal. For Boban, it would give him a decent contract that would set him up to get paid more in 2017 while also allowing him to have a short free agency so he could get over the SNT for the tournament.

IMO, the jury is still out on how effective Boban will be. He didn't see much time against quality opponents. Glimpses here and there. Most of his proud moments were against 2nd or 3rd stringers, as already stated. What might be promising is that he looked physically better later in the season than the beginning. He ran and stood less hunched over. If his conditioning and overall health can be improved, it might increase his mobility. If so, and coupled with more skill development, he would be a solid backup C and starter against some teams.

I say he gets around a 2 year for 6 million type of deal.

Holy Chinook, the Spurs aren't going to dish out MLE money or anything close to that for a 3rd string center. He's useless in every imaginable way except for eating up minutes in garbage time.
    This.

Boban is only worth the min now.

But do hope resigns for that-

no more than 2 mil a season.

There will be plenty of teams, that likely view Boban as a clear rotation player, that will offer him MLE type money (at least). It only takes one and there will be a market for him.

He's capped at the MLE due to the Arenas rule.

Not exactly. I think how the GA rule works is the first year salary is capped at MLE level so teams over the cap can match year one. However in subsequent years the contract can be back loaded. So you see the contracts like: 5M, 5.5M, 10M etc...

The total amount of the deal can still be quite large was the point.

Hope the Spurs and Boban come to an agreement and wait, just like they did with Kawhi and Green. Spurs need a lot of new pieces... If they stand pat, expect another second round exit.

The summer after 6 happened, Spurs had quite a bit of cap and they wasted it on Splitter and Manu extensions.
Pretty hard to call it a waste when they rang.
