To fold, in a sporting context, is usually used when a player or team collapses after playing well. Where do you think the term "To fold under pressure" comes from?

Are you dumb? Have you ever played poker? You can fold in two ways. You can indeed fold without playing the hand. Or you can fold under pressure from an opponent raising and re-raising you. Also, the poker metaphor isn't really used for sports (poker isn't a sport).
