Charles Barkley was 6'6". He was also clearly exceptional. Surely you're not comparing Stokes to Charles Barkley? You might as well say that he could be another Michael Jordan, because he was also 6'6".

Stokes reminds me a little of Corliss Williamson. Obviously not as skilled but has a similar body and gait. Simmons was bad, couldn't buy a shot. KA is obviously the best player when he's out there as he should be being a rotational player and this being his 3rd SL. Murray has some skills just needs some coaching and will be fine. He's going to turn out to be a steal. He has the "stuff" you can't teach. I like Arci, he's a pest on D and can handle the ball well enough and if he can shoot consistently I see him sticking. He's kinda like a poor man's Jj Barea. The rest of the guys are meh
This is funny thanks Uriel... made me laugh lol
Barkley was 6'4.5", he was 6'6" with shoes. Stokes is 6"7" & 6'8.5" w/ shoes:
Source Height w/o Shoes Height w/shoes Weight Wingspan Standing Reach Body Fat No Step Vert Max Vert 2014 NBA Draft Combine 6' 7" 6' 8.5" 263 7' 1.25" 8' 7.5" 8.2 31.0 36.0
Yeah, Stokes is kind of like Big Nasty except he's actually wider/stronger.
The problem is that Becky kept playing stokes at C. He needs to play PF next to lalanne or Ndoye.
I really don't give a rat what numbers you dug up from where. Barkley was 6'6". He also had a short neck, and his body height was that of a taller player. On top of that he had exceptional athleticism (and strength). In 1999, for months leading up to the draft, rumors circulated about Elton Brands true height. Brand had always been listed at 68 or 69 in college, but many people didnt buy it. Wally Szczerbiak, another player from the draft class, said Brand was closer to 66, and the rumor was Brand was actually only 65 ½ barefoot.
Brand was viewed as a top 5 pick by most already, but many questioned if he was tall enough to play the power forward in the NBA. Only Larry Johnson and Charles Barkley had found success at the power forward position in recent years at around 66, and they possessed superior athleticism.
Brand however had been insisting he was measured 68 without shoes at Duke, and he was confident he would measure at that size again. Brand showed up to the camp and measured 68 Ό without shoes, 69 ½ with shoes and with an amazing 75 ½ wingspan, and 92 standing reach. Jerry Krause explained that Brand had a short neck [as did Barkley] and that a long neck is wasted height in basketball.
Stokes has none of those things going for him. You can use up all the wishful thinking you want, but he's not in the same universe as Charles Barkley. Using Barkley for a comparison is just silly. The simple fact is that very few players have been able to be successful playing the big man's game, at a height of 6'6". And the ones that have are freaks of nature that are obvious while they are still in college, and they get drafted higher because of it. Stokes isn't one of those guys. Period. And he isn't going to suddenly become one of those guys, just because he's on the Spurs' SL team.
I wish he was, I really do. But he isn't.
Let me ask you GSH, bc I am in no particular big man's camp in here.... but say there is a roster spot open.. who is your pick of the bigs we have seen?
Personally that is why I wanted to see Milutinov. He's just a legit center. I have been told he's a foul machine, raw or whatever, but he's 21 and is a legit big... anyways that was a disappointment that he's not here. Who do you like from here (LJC and Kyle obviously are in the team, not a question about them)? In this SL team.. I don't know yet.
Maybe Stokes' wide body sort of reminded Becky of Jayne Appel.
(You know, In a good way)
I live in SA dude.![]()
this
he played a little better on defense this game compared to his last but thats not saying much
i dont wanna jump to conclusion but whenever he's on the floor, it seems to me he is only concerned about "dominating" the game and his stats
really?![]()
I'm depressed about all of them. That's why I keep hoping to see an announcement that they've signed Bourousis.
What I feel pretty confident in is that Stokes is one of those unfortunate guys who can put up solid lines against D-League level compe ion. But because of his (lack of) height, he's not going to be able to handle NBA big men. It's a shame, and I really feel for the guy.
Do you guys remember how frustrating Dejuan Blair was? He had flashes of being good, but also seemed to keep having a lot of "bad games"? Blair had a lot of heart, and was reasonably athletic. But after a while it became clear to even the bandwagoners that he was just too damned small to ever be consistently good in the NBA.
Blair had a standing reach of 8'10.5". Stokes has a standing reach of about 8'7". That makes it pretty tough, when you're going against guys like, say, Tiago Splitter or Enis Kanter or Steven Adams, who all have a standing reach of 9'1.5". That's 6 1/2" inches that Stokes is giving up, when it comes time to go up for rebounds, or to try and block a shot. If he was a guy who could jump out of the building - then maybe. But he's just about average in that department. So what is it that's going to allow this guy to overcome that height disparity?
Yes, he was very good in D-League. And, yes, it would make a great movie if he could play with so much heart that he could sky over 7-footers and exceed everyone's expectations. I'd pay to see that movie. But it's not going to play out in real life. It's not fair for a guy like that who wants it so much. But if the Spurs are so weak in the middle that he somehow makes the regular season roster, he's going to be even more frustrating than Blair. Potentially a LOT more frustrating. Personally, I don't think it can happen. If it does, I'll still be happy that someone in his situation can get paid and get a financial boost in life. But it won't bode well for the Spurs' season. If I'm wrong, I'll be happy to admit it.
That's my dissertation on Stokes. I'm done.
Since Murray started playing, Forbes and Simmons has struggled, definitely not a coincidence
Reminds me of the simmons crew who wanted him to play over Green because apperently hes a good defender because hes athletic and had some nice defensive stats.![]()
Dumbass, I was mocking Apo for claiming Stokes was 6'4" when he's actually 6"7":

James Harden was averaging at least 1 steal/1 block/6 rebounds for the good chunk of the '14-'15 season.![]()
