As long as we have two shooters with two creators and a defensive big that can set strong screens, it should be effective offensively. It's a proven formula. Even the summer spurs capitalized on it.

I really want to see Nnoko get a shot. He reminds me of Ben Wallace. Not gonna say poor or homeless anything, just that he's rugged like Ben and has a similar skillset. He has an excellent motor and that's something I look for in players. My three translatable skills are motor, shooting, and rebounding imo.

Bertans is going to such a winning piece in the NBA. Shooting 2-3ft behind the 3pt line in your first game is just ridiculous. He has enough ball handling and off ball mobility to make a great fit offensively. Can't wait to watch more of him.

Yes, we have two slots open and one will almost assuredly be a big. Now I'm not counting Forbes which I would think he would make it. I'm counting Livio as patty of the thirteen.

    Parker/Mills/Murray
    Green/Manu/Forbes
    Leonard/Simmons/Bertans
    Aldridge/Anderson/Jean-Charles
    Pau/Dedmon/Nnoko

I agree that boarding is a translatable skill. But with Dijon I don't see that it reflects toughness as much as IQ. He just knows angles and probabilities, and he gets into rebounding position very well and very early.
It also means that, like Anderson, he stays engaged in the play rather than transitioning too early.

I think Bertans will push for minutes this season. He's too good a shooter to not play and I suspect Pop will find him minutes. Bertans/Simmons may go into their own little battle for playing time. It may end up being Anderson & Bertans in the forwards spots and Simmons as the third SG behind Manu, who would still play a lot bc Manu will rest a lot. Simmons doesn't strike me as a SF is the reason, specially if his 3 pt shot doesn't come back and there is no way he will be that ball dominant unless Manu is rested. I think we see Dijon too, early in the season and when Tony is rested. Considering the relatively short roster he might end up spending most of the season with the team and just shuttle in and out to the dleague if he needs game time experience.

I definitely don't think Simmons, Manu, and Kyle should be playing at the same time, I just think pop will give the players who been here longer first crack at it. I think the spacing will be terrible and Simmons shooting is suspect at best. Although he had some nice pull up jumpers the last few games. I do agree it should be Bertans to be the back up three.

If Ryan Anderson has an NBA career I don't see any reason Bertans can't. Although his rebounding blows.

The only thing to worry about Bertans is the short contract - 2 years. Kid will most likely earn big $$ next time he renrws, provided he doesnt get injured.

Exactly. Which is why some of us were hoping for a three year deal or more.

Now the Spurs have to plan to have at least MLE in cap room or save the mle if over the cap to match so the don't get screwed like with Boban.

Which can become difficult. Parker is coming off but will have a cap hold and likely demands for a Manu type contract.

Aldridge has a player option, he can get out, have a giant hold, and expect to get paid

Gasol can opt out in summer 17 and might leverage his way into big money for another two year deal with a player option to suck up room or just finish his current deal and have a huge hold after and demand a new deal.

Green will probably opt out and have a big hold plus demands for a Manu style loyalty contract to make up for his current deal

And if they want Anderson he'll be going into his fifth year, so all the scenarios with matching and extensions apply.

And that's ignoring whatever they do in summer 17, like Simmons, any cap room or mle signings, etc.

Milutinov might become in jeopardy. If he waits another year he can get out of the rookie scale. But if he does that and waits until summer 18, the mle might be saved for matching on Bertans. Pushing him off farther.

I would think bertans would be dumb not to sign the short deal and test the market. It's not good for the team, but I don't think we can deny he'll be underpaid this year if he's a rotation player. Guys his size who shoot make $10 million. We can about that but it won't change much.

Bertans is an upcoming Arenas RFA in 2018. With this being after the market settles down, he's not looking at a crazy offer.

Most key for Bertans is to stay healthy and have a good couple of seasons. If he's going to be Tiago 2.0 he better do it before he's going to get paid.

Bertans? His game is nothing like Tiago's. At all.

    Maybe I'm misunderstanding your point...
