Say what you want about Sandler, but Happy Gilmore is a masterpiece. Waterboy was throughly entertaining as well imo. His work has been the s the last 2 decades though.

I agree, Pacino is good. When I say he's overrated I mean that he's the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd name that comes to everyone's mind when thinking about "the greatest actor (of all-time even)", and to me he doesn't deserve to be that high. I've seen way too many cringe worthy performances from him.Al Pacino being listed here is a sign of viewer fatigue...he's not the mythical guinea goomba Hollywood makes him out to be, but he's made some damn good films. Sure, most (if not all) of his characters involve him going bat crazy at one point or another with his eyes popping out of his head, but it's altogether entertaining. Everybody's in love with Godfather II (especially De Niro's part), but after re-watching TG1&2 last month I've come to appreciate Michael Corleone's character more and more. It's one of the few roles where he is emotionless, but it's just that quality that creates one of the most ruthless and frightening characters ever portrayed on film. To me, it's still why The Godfather is the best of the trilogy--for Michael's 3+ hour metamorphosis from Walter White into Heisenberg. I implore people to review those two films. The second one--also obviously brilliant--just drives home the subtlety of his viciousness. People rave about the Cuban revolution scene where AP says "I know it was you Fredo, you broke my heart"...but no scene is more heartbreaking or diabolical than when he hugs his brother at their mom's funeral, then looks Al Neri in the eye. That still gives me the feels tbh.
Needless to say, I'm an unapologetic Pacino fan--be it Panic in Needle Park, Serpico, And Justice for All, Glengarry Glen Ross, Heat, etc...it's all what I want from it: entertainment
I don't understand why his movies got brought up as universally liked. Happy Gilmore and Waterboy were both really good, and I'd classify Big Daddy as decent, but beyond that it's a pretty common opinion his movies suck and that his good movie : bad movie ratio is abysmal.
when were these considered universally liked? Everyone I know considers the Da Vinci Code a bomb movie remake of a book.
"Warriors" is the movie I'd add to the list. I don't understand how this one is considered a classic. The movie is basically a drawn out skit that you'd expect from a group of high school students entering a film compe ion. The acting is horrible and cheesy, it's almost like the movie is considered a classic as a joke.
Clockwork Orange is another one. Outside of having an extremely weird and bizarre plot line, what the is so special about that movie?

It has not aged well. [At the time] it was big . The actual violence is cartoonish which does not travel well.

Good Will Hunting. The movie popped into my head even before seeing DoKs posts. I saw it when it came out and still think it's such an obnoxious and overrated film. Affleck has one of the most punchable faces in cinematic history, and he co-wrote this crap.
I could watch Warriors anytime, Walter Hill is the . Originally he wanted to make it realistic but with all black and Latino actors since that's what the gang scene was like. When the studio wanted a mixed cast, he didn't think it was realistic but could work more as a comic book retelling of Greek myth.
I don't like Clockwork as much but it's a great satire of an amoral, big brother society imo.

Only seen it twice so I barely remember. Tried to give it another chance but I really hate Oscar bait films like this. Fwiw Robin Williams, ****** Smith's music and the cinematography are all very commendable. It's the rest I don't like.

Exactly. I was waiting for the words "POW!" and "BAM!" to start popping up every time someone threw an overly-choreographed punch.
I think he had his moments. I thought he did well in the handful of movies that he played a dark character. I guess the movies were forgettable as I can't recall the names. One Hour Photo. That's one.
right, nothing says big brother society like a gang of high school age kids being able to do whatever they want at any hour of the night and commit multiples counts of robbery and rape before having police involvement.
Even that one is just regardless as an average to above average action film, imo.
The problem with "Photo" is nobody gets killed. It's anti-climatic.

What's his face was juiced in. He could do no wrong. And it was a time when nudity was forbidden to us. Even then I didn't fall for it and sneak thru.
I remember in the early '60s they came out with "Mondo Cane" (Sp) with the natives dancing naked. Big time advertising campaign on TV. I tagged along with mother & father and fell promptly asleep.
Im not trying to be a contrarian but I honestly do not find "the big lebowsky" entertaining. I always felt like I was missing something. I've watched about 5 times over the years and I guess I just don't like the movie. I've since realized after watching "Inside Llewyn Davis" that I must really dislike the Coen brothers films. They're movies get a lot of acclaim and I found "true grit" and "no country for old men" just ok. It's one of the reasons why I won't waste my time watching Fargo.

I gotta disagree here. I was dying laughing when he started belting out "I'm Singing in the Rain" while raping that woman.
The one with the helicopter in Somalia. Everyone raved about it.
