It has not aged well. [At the time] it was big . The actual violence is cartoonish which does not travel well.
The Warriors is dated as , yes. It's enjoyable in its campiness, though. Southern Comfort, which Walter Hill made right after The Warriors, has aged better.

Extreme Prejudice is my favorite Walter Hill movie, FWIW.

I've never met someone who didn't like this movie. Arguably Goodmans finest work.
    My wife can't stand it.

Overall though, a movie like this will be nitpicked. Actually I think it's best watched alone. There is a ton of good stuff. Thread ain't gonna like a movie where Donnie mistakes Nihilists for Nazis.

It's difficult to find this film. I've never seen it.

You think I'd like that, Joe?

ing classic. Still my favorite is the rant about "this is what happens when you a stranger in the ass"
When Donnie keeps adding "I am the Walrus", while The Dude is trying to fit Lenin/Lennon into his explanation of the crime to Walter while Walter just simmers until he blows up. Goldman was perfect for this interplay that continues throughout the movie.

    Fn great stuff...

And the fat kid with the homework just watches Walter destroy the neighbor's new car... Damn good.

I love how Walter brought that rumpled homework in his "evidence" ziplock baggie pulled out of his briefcase he pops open.... presented it to him like a seasoned interrogater. "And is this your homework"
"He's cracking" while The Dude just gets more frustrated.

Yeah. Gerard Butler can't be expected to carry a movie.

Most of these movies aren't considered to be universally great in the first place.

Some that are, however, are pretty ty.

anic.. ty movie. Other than the fetish aspect of portraying a big older looking woman trying to a kid, it's just a predictable film for some reason.

Ray.. Oh look, Jamie Fox pretending to be Ray Charles.. he's never done that before.

12 years a Slave. Yeah and? Oh no, there was slavery back then... and a black guy got taken into slavery even though he spoke well.

Interstellar.. probably the stupidest concept for a movie I've seen in the past 20 years (other than the obvious quirky films).

Armageddon.. I wanted to see Affleck die. No dice. Other than Steve B, pretty ty film.

Days of Thunder.. what? Duval should have refused that role.

Vanilla Sky... o, tech support? Cut this .. easy to fall asleep in this one.

Anything Cage ever did, even The Rock.. is a ty film.

Any film with a "message'> you, that's my message. Entertain me, don't try to lecture me you fat Hollywood jew s.

Same with American Sniper. People think they have to show overt appreciation for the military. Producers know this and milk the out of it while it lasts.

I agree, Pacino is good. When I say he's overrated I mean that he's the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd name that comes to everyone's mind when thinking about "the greatest actor (of all-time even)", and to me he doesn't deserve to be that high. I've seen way too many cringe worthy performances from him.
You've seen way too many movies then. Al Pacino has a great range, he can be a softie or a hard ass. He can be a druglord or a cop. He can be a slick real estate salesman or a CIA instructor. I cannot think of anyone with the range he has. Val Kilmer comes pretty close before he ballooned out, but others in their realm don't quite reach that level.

Compare Lefty from Donnie Brasco to Tony Montana from Scarface, or to the colonel from Scent of a Woman. Same guy.. but Al has the ability to make you feel sorry for him for not being a legit gangster, how does he manage that? You actually feel something for the relationship he has with his wife, how he leaves that house for the last time and prepares as if what he's doing is important. The chemistry between he and Depp in that film is palpable. Al has a face that says his lines for him. He's unrivaled, imo.

Southern Comfort is good stuff, surprised you haven't seen it. Hill did the Long Riders during this period which is badass from what I remember.
Extreme Prejudice is another favorite. There are a few of his films I haven't seen, I wish they'd put out a directors cut to Another 48 Hours.

I thought it a bit trite, hurried and incomplete. And of course gimmicky with the brothers accommodation.

& "Knowing" isn't bad either. Grim of course, but, it's got the best airliner crash I've ever seen on film.

And considering the plot he not as maniacal as he usually is.

I gotta disagree here. I was dying laughing when he started belting out "I'm Singing in the Rain" while raping that woman.
So outside of that scene you agree the movie is ty?

I saw Boyhood the other day and didn't think it was that special. I mean yeah it was cool they filmed it over 11 years, but that was it for me.
