Matt is an advanced professional basketball player and is an excellent team player. Ryan Richards is far from having either of those traits.
That advanced professional basketball player that you speak of sat on the bench all year..
    Why?
    He sux now.

But Now that bonner is gone, the spurs can give somebody younger (and hopefully better) a chance to see if they possess those traits you speak of.
    Only time will tell.

The two teams that have a chance of beating the Spurs don't have any good bigs.

We are talking here GSW and Cavs. So I'm not sure why we need another big.

But let's see how training camp sorts them out. We got Forbes, Arcidiacono, Garino and Richards going after the 15 spot. Garino seems to be more than happy to play in the D-league. Both Forbes and Arcidiacono have been paid enough to stick it out for a year. Richards may also be heading for the D-league.

Spurs are likely to leave the 15th spot open for a veteran. I don't see any of these rookies making this team this year.

Oh, I forgot... Laprovittola... he could make the team.
Umm didn't we loose to OK because we didn't have any bigs?

Not that it means anything, but what is Ryan Richards' ethnicity? Being born in the UK, you would think he's white, but he looks kinda Middle Eastern-ish to me.

After reading all the above comments, I think the consensus is that his chances of making the d-league, much less the Spurs roster are slim and none. No reason to return to this thread.

Good luck to him and all the training camp invitees. It's a chance for them to reach their dreams.

Well, the Spurs have four d-league allocation slots available. Assuming Laprovittola gets the 15th spot, I guess the four assignees would be Forbes, Arcidiacono, Garino and Richards. With Murray and LJC being likely send-downs, that's not a horrible rotation for that level.

I'm thinking that's the move. I would expect that after next season, the spurs will reevaluate where each player stands (following summer league, training camp, and the preseason. If the Spurs were to retain Dedmon, Simmons, (likely losing Mills in the process) and bring over Milutinov, there would be two spots left over (depending on what the Spurs chose to do with their 2017 1st round pick). I don't expect Richards to even be on the team but maybe Garino and or Forbes have a shot if they head to Austin and play out the year.

    Aaaaaand he's gone.

That pretty much makes it clear that he forced his way into camp. (Not that I blame him. It's not as if any NBA team is likely to want him, but he's better off as a free agent than stuck as a Spurs draftee when they don't want him.)

I wonder if the Spurs have a camp replacement in mind for them to cut him after the second day of camp. Maybe Duncan will scrimmage to make it 4x5.
