We're headed towards a four party (at least) system in the next 40 years.
Not without major changes to how our elections are conducted unless you expect the House of Representatives to choose our President every 4 years.

I could see a split. I think it will start at the State/Local level, though. Probably a while before a 3rd Party candidate has a chance at POTUS.
The cons ution does mandate the electoral college as the way we decide our elections. See the election of 1824 as an example of how a 4 party election would work.
Yes it does. If there are 3+ parties who split the electoral vote so that no one gets 270 whichever party controls congress elects their man president. This will be a two party nation until the government is overthrown and a new cons ution is written.
