Memphis' shooters have made way more than their share of circus shots. Nothing you can do about that. I thought they were better than their record. But you're right - if they shot like this all the time, they wouldn't have been a 7 seed.

One thing I'm sick of watching is Memphis' big coming out like they are hedging, but extending their arms and grabbing at our guards. I don't understand why the league has decided to allow that . I respect a good hedge. But when you don't get there in time, you don't get to just reach out and grab the guy as he circles around the top of the circle. Memphis has done that all series, and it s with the flow/timing of the offense badly. If I hat those two big bas s on my team, I would probably try the same thing. My beef is with the refs not calling it. The physicality has been the other big difference maker in this series. But that one play is something refs have to call, at least once in a while.
Yup. Zbo has such slow feet he should really be exploited out there. But he's grabbing. Gasol is just flat out bumping guys and running into them .

Deadman comes up with some seriously athletic rebounds, and he has remarkable ability to switch onto smalls and guard them on the perimeter. When he got the starting nod, I thought he would become a solid starter for this team. But he just continued to commit those dumb fouls. He and Simmons are such teasers.
    I thought of him too.
I guess if they stay in the team at a reasonable price Pop takes them. Heck at their current contracts they are a great deal. I think Simms will get paid... doesn't need to be a lot, I am thinking CoJo/Baynes type contract but no the 1 and 1 ppl here keep wanting to swing him with and it's really hard to tell. I still maintain he needs a better deal. It's possible Spurs run this thing right back frankly in which case they probably consider reupping him at a reasonable price.

I see Dedman more or less the same at this point. He can opt in to his contract, but it's really unknown. We spursfans tend to underrate the guys in our own team. But neither guy is going to be as expensive as initially thought... Spurs aren't making a run for any names IMO.. though coachmac87 keeps making noise with CP3...

I wonder why Pop is really limiting Pau's minutes. Lee getting more court time
I wonder about that too. Pau has struggled on defense to be fair, but so has Lee. I don't know.
I don't even know if it is on account of not having one brother duel the other and Marc besting Pau being a blow to his ego... something of that nature. it's really hard to tell. I am surprised at Pop's sudden Lee love tbh.

Not sudden DLee love as much as Not-so-sudden disdain for Deadman.

I think I saw what he likes about Lee in the video posted about all the missed 3's last game. One - even though Lee was a negative and defense overall sucked, Zbo did not have success. That is the first thing and was his main assignment. The second thing is unlike Dedmon, when Lee rolls, he was excellent at reading the play and delivering an on time and crisp pass.

The Spurs generated a ton of good looks from that. They missed most of them even though open. Spurs were struggling on offense with Dedmon and getting off to slow starts. Spurs got off to a fast start with Lee (even though they lost) and the same 3 balls where there today and SA nailed them.

Yes it makes sense but its changed the iden y of the team from one that hanged it's hat on defense to something else. It can't be helped, playoffs are a different monster and Spurs were struggling to get others going. Also Deadman really was making a lot of mistakes out there.

I won't be ing when we won..

Ya I get it. Just think Pop was going with offense and tbh, even though SA made plenty of mistakes defensively, I dont think Pop respects MEM offense that much so he's electing to go with more offense since its the "bigger issue". A lot of what MEM is doing has little to do with SA defense. They are just hitting shots. Dedmon would help for sure there, but the offense was suffering.

memphis has played a lot better than I expected. I know people are complaining that this series is close but imo it's a blessing in disguise for the Spurs. Kinda like how the 2014 Mavs gave them a good test in the first round. Spurs need this composure and mental preparation for later rounds. I hope the team closes it on Thursday.

yeah, and one positive is that this series has lit a fire under tony's ass. it's not a matter of me "liking" tony, but the fact is he's a starter, and if he's playing like dog , we're not going anywhere. conley is getting the better of him, sure, but he's competing.

i also like that pop has been playing bertans, who has hopefully been earning his trust. i think the kid could be a real difference maker in later rounds.

if this was the physical memphis of a couple of years ago, i'd say a long series is bad news as it wears the guys down, but realistically the only guy who's been pounding has been aldridge, and i'm not that worried about his conditioning or durability. if they had tony allen healthy who was playing rough with kiwi, that would concern me.
