Carter had plenty of reasons why he lost. Economy never recovered post Vietnam, Iran hostage crisis, Soviet imposing their will in Afghanistan, and losing to a popular candidate who coalesced the conservative base with independents and democrats.He isn't, do you know why Carter lost?

The gas crisis was big during that time especially in a bad economy with massive inflation. Carter proved to be too inept during the tough times. The first Bush lost for similar reasons with the economy despite winning a popular war, but the economy mess was inherited from Reagan.
