Kawhi cannot fall on jumpers. Steph can because he doesn't defend anyone important. Kawhi does. He cannot be on his back as the ball goes the other way in transition.

1. That doesn't matter. Pop allowed it to happen and benefited from it.I understand why people are playing the Bowen card, but it isn't comparable..
1. I don't recall Pop ever defending Bowen's actions like the Warriors and media are doing with Zaza
2. It was a different league, tbh..today's NBA has actively and openly tried to remove goons from the game by reducing physicality and emphasizing player safety, including shooters landing safely

The Bowen card is just used out of hatred for the Spurs. It's just media screaming that they hate the Spurs like always.
Yes, yes, finally a use for Joel Anthony. The most ing head-scratching signing the Spurs have made in years has now become clear what he is here to do.
Other guys like Simmons and Dedmon can't do this because they stand to lose a lot. They're both trying to earn a big contract and look out for their futures, so they can't really retaliate, but they can play physical and foul very physically. Dedmon would the guy I would choose, though.
Joel Anthony on the other hand. He can play as rough as he wants, and if he does, I will then be the first to say that he's earned that roster spot and money paid to him this season.

LOL. I was watching all the ESPN shows today. You're right, most of the former players said it was a dirty play. Jalen Rose, Chauncey Billups, Kenyon Martin, S-Jax. Just now, Shaq and Chuck. Kenny Smith and Tim Legler disagreed. Most of the ESPN media disagreed-this mutant nicknamed Stugotz, that fat Dan Leba , the whole panel from Around the horn. Of course Elhassan was literally jumping out of his chair. I was surprised that Stephen A and Wilbon called it dirty.
ESPN sucks the of whatever frontrunner they can. Used to be Kobe, then was LeBron, now it's the tiny, tiny s of the Warriors.

Don't wanna be the "if you played basketball before guy" but....
If you ever played basketball before you know how unnatural it is to close out on someone the way Zaza did. It's like the boot scoot boogie out there with one foot sticking out and shuffling forward. It's not taught that way and it's just an unnatural way to move on the basketball court.
Just sign Metta World Peace, Stephen Jackson, Robert Horry, Bruce Bowen to emergency 10 day contracts and have them start the game. See how many Warriors they can lay out.

I actually think it's pretty common for bigs to close out like that. Where one foot sticks out and the other kind of drags behind. Probably just due to them being at such a disadvantage, and backing up bc they're unsure whether the perimeter guy is going to drive by them or shoot. That's not what was unnatural with what Zaza did, it's the fact that he took 4 total steps on his close out (left foot, right foot, left foot, right foot):
A natural close out is 2 steps like Pau (left foot, right foot) and LMA (right foot, left foot) did here:
And believe it or not those Gay Area gots are trying to compare our bigs' closeouts to what Zaza did. To them that's proof that it's common practice. They're basically running with the Potato Head's response that those plays were identical to what happened with Kawhi. If our bigs take 4 steps on either of those plays Steph's ankles are toast too. LMA especially had more than enough time to take one more step and get right under him as he was up in the air but instead went out of his way to hold back his lead foot. Yet they have the audacity to call him out for it. I hope our bigs take those extra steps next game so those gots really have something to compare Zaza's closeout to.

Yeah that last shuffle was definitely unnatural. He already knew the the shot was off as he was looking back to see it.
The difference is Pachulia's foot was still moving (toward Kawhi) when contact was made.
The misconception is that KL landed on Pachulia's stationary foot (the normal version of this play). It didn't -- Pachulia never gave Kawhi a chance to land anywhere. Look carefully, Pachulia's foot crashed into Kawhi's in midair before Kawhi came down.
Thus, Kawhi had no chance to avoid the contact.
This is a bit different than the normal foot-under-the-shooter ploy.
That got's overreaction after the foul screams intention. He's acting shocked.
