Not blaming Trump, per se, but pushing a false narrative that he's a right winger. When it's been shown that he was rejected by a pro-Trump rally.

    http://www.portlandmercury.com/blogt...te-supremacist

Dude is about as right-wing as it gets. You don't like the nutty fringe of the right-wing, but it is there, just like the nutty end of the left is.

I don't think the narrative is "false" so much as one you just don't like to admit, because you can't admit people on your end of the ideological spectrum might (gasp) do/say stupid/evil things.

Christian is a known right wing extremist and white supremacist. On April 29, Christian showed up to the right-wing "March for Free Speech" on 82nd Avenue in Montavilla with a baseball bat in an attempt to assault left-wing protesters. The bat was quickly confiscated by Portland police officers. He ranted how he was a nihilist. He'd soon yelled racial slurs (" all you n*****s") and gave the Nazi salute throughout the day. He yelled "Hail Vinland" throughout the day.

A few Portland police officers on April 29 appeared to be familiar with Christian, but not threatened by him. They claimed he had a head injury and was mentally ill.

pushing a false narrative that he's a right winger.
The No True Scotsman (NTS) fallacy is a logical fallacy that occurs when a debater defines a group such that every group member possess some quality. For example, it is common to argue that "all members of [my religion] are fundamentally good", and then to abandon all bad individuals as "not true [my-religion]-people". This can occur in two ways:
1.During argument, someone re-defines the group in order to exclude counter-examples. Instead of backing down from "all group members are X" to "most group members are X", the debater simply redefines the group.[2][3]
2.Before argument, someone preemptively defines some group such that the group definitionally must be entirely "good" or entirely "bad". However, this definition was created arbitrarily for this defensive purpose, rather than based on the actual qualities of the group.[4]

NTS can be thought of as a form of inverted cherry picking, where instead of selecting favourable examples, you reject unfavourable ones. The NTS fallacy paves the path to other logical fallacies, such as letting the "best" member of a group represent it. Thanks to these remarkable qualities, the NTS fallacy is a vital tool in the promotion of denialism.

In short: Both arguers should agree on a definition and stick to it.
    "He can't be a right-winger, because [right-wingers can't be crazy]"

Is that what you are trying for here?

Not sure I have the time bandwidth. It is mildly fun to play the "right/left wing" dance, but bottom line is the dude appears to be a bit brain-damaged. In all fairness neither side gets to claim his dumb ass for that reason.

Far more productive, IMO, to outline the case of how immoral the right is when you get people on the right saying things like "the children of poor people should be allowed to starve to death rather than have any government assistance".

or, for that matter, a complete hypocritical silence on the part of the Republican leadership on calls for that dude in Montana to resign for physically assaulting a reporter.

I don't see a single person here saying it was somehow motivated by a leftist mindset. What I see are people asking how it was driven by a right wing mindset when it is apparent the guy was a mentally unstable hardcore Bernie Sanders supporter.

people aren't calling an attack directed towards muslims a product of a leftist mindset because i dont know of any leftist message that calls for hostility towards muslims.

Why are you trying to sneak in quotes to my post? If you have something to say just say it.

The same guy who said if Trump was Hitler he would join the SS also said he couldn't and didn't vote for Trump, along with calling for the death of both Trump and Hillary.

You guys are trying to pigeonhole a dude with severe mental issues and look foolish.

i already did say that (read pgs 23-24 of this thread)... i decided to add it to your quote too just for fun.

i already said (at the end of page 23 and start of page 24) that im not blaming trump/republicans for what happened. but in response to "why do people call this a right wing attack" i address that point in full

i agree that he was beyond moonbat. i'm not saying this was the fault of a politician.

but when people ascribe his hostility/violence towards muslims to trump... ask yourself which politician during the last election cycle showed the most anti-islam sentiment. the particular action he took has nothing to do with taxes, the 1%, free trade, free speech, the clinton foundation, minimum wage, black lives matter, etc... it was about his views towards muslims. how would you tie that sentiment to sanders or his campaign?
you're asking why people think he's a trump supporter. i'm explaining why based on the actions he is known for, it's a logical assumption. i'm not suggesting that trump is responsible. the killer isn't known because of his views on citizens united or tax policies... which is why bernie sanders is irrelevant to the discussion

anytime somebody commits a horrible act, it doesn't mean every group he is tangentially related to is responsible. if a guy kills his family, we dont say "omg, he worked for General Motors. they're so ing evil!" or "omg the guy went to college! they brainwashed him!" But when the act is related to the message or purpose of a group, that's when people start drawing parallels and connecting dots, its a natural thing to do imo. so if a black dude kills a white dude, i dont think as much of it because the cir stances are unknown. if the black dude was constantly posting online about how he wants white people to suffer, wants to kill white people for revenge for an injustice... then that becomes a story

of course, as aarony said in another thread, people nowadays have the tendency of looking at every piece of news and analyzing it from the perspective of left vs right... so that adds fuel to the fire as well
