LeBron is already plugged in to LA business and doesn't need Magic Johnson to show him the ropes. LeBron wants to be the greatest player ever and the richest athlete ever..if he can accomplish both in LA then sure it makes sense. But strictly basketball wise Lakers don't make sense at all for a couple years unless something drastic happens.

The easiest way for LeBron to become a BILLIONAIRE athlete is catching the ghost of Jordan..it doesn't matter where he plays just catch the ghost and the $$ will take care of itself..

I also find the reactions of the "idea" of LeBron to SA quite funny tbh..Marceulles with a *ugh* and even Rich Eisen and his crew when Jay Williams brought it up on his show..

bought not built. It's one thing to get CP3, who we need to fill a void but I'm not down with using the league as a farm system. The league is ty enough as it is with what the Dubs did this season. We went to the WCF without TP and were an injury away from possibly beating the eventual champs, who are a superteam. We don't need Lebron to buy a championship. Tinker with the roster? Yes. Get a HOF in CP3? Yes, he fills a need. But you don't gut the league out of compe ion. It's not fun like that and that's not what this organization is about...nor is this in the realm of a possibility anyways!

Big thing everybody misses on LeBron to Spurs. The culture. KD changed from playing ball dominant where he and Westbrook took turns going one on one to an unselfish team game. GSW have 4 all stars, but they play unselfish. Durant adopted that style.

The Spurs have the same culture. Trust the organization. Team defense and unselfish offense. And no superstar at udes. LeBron is used to running the show from coaching to being the GM. He would have to come here and blend. Not order RC to pay all his player friends big contracts (so his agent friends that represent his player friends make money). He would have to conform his game to Pop's vision. He would have to handle the ball less and score less. It takes a certain kind of player to thrive in SA. I'm not sure a guy used to getting everything he wants and doing what he wants would like or thrive in this culture.

Just a continuation of in-season posting.
How is this posting? It's general Spurs conversation during the very slow time of the year. Why don't you start a thread?

    LBJ already is. Technically.

Last season he signed a lifetime billion dollar Nike deal.

Have to wait and see what Cavs do with the roster. If they finish next season with the same roster then Spurs would have a chance.

See my earlier post. I'm not sure how RC would take James telling him who to sign and how much money to pay him. And demanding the Spurs pay highest luxury tax to surround him with talent to win. That's the superstar you get.

Well you're comparing a Cleveland franchise with no credibility..to the most respected franchise in the sport

And you also apparently don't understand the chain of command of the Spurs..LeBron wouldn't be telling RC what to do..he'd be telling Pop.

If James does come, will this be Kawhi's team or James'?

I'd say it's Kawhi's team, especially in light of the fact that Leonard's career is ascendin while James' is on the tail end.

    Just a thought.

Pop gave up GM duties long ago. I'm sure he has some say, but the coach/GM model has proved to not work. But LeBron may defer to Pop, but my point is he either won't defer or he won't be happy. He's been calling the shots since he was 15 on every team and especially after his Miami experience.

Pop is the president of operations...he's the boss of everything about the Spurs other then ownership.

LeBron has never played for a coach like Pop...there's a reason why he's respected more then any other active coach by players and other coaches..

With the Durant Beta move, there chance of some unlikely and unheard of things could fall into place, and the Spurs are in a situation where it could fall in the lap. At the end of the day, the chances of Lebron and Paul winning a le with the Warriors is slim. Defiantly grossly unlikely with CP and the Clippers. Plus, and keep this in mind, player to player tampering is not being enforced. Now imagine Lebron calling his buddies Melo and Wade. ' these warriors, lets join up.' Lebron calls CP, 'Get to SA and we will join up a year later. Keep this quiet.' And with Lebron and Wade having one year remaining and Melo opting out, all of a sudden they are free agents.

Unlikely? oath. But Durant Beta changed the league.

When LBJ first went to Miami it was still Wade's team, soon it became obvious that LBJ was the best player but it was still Wade's team. If LBJ were to come to the Spurs I don't think he would be the best player, and would be seen more as a very valuable hired assassin but a hired assassin nonetheless. So no worries there, especially if he gets us two or more rings, then he would just be the best free agent acquisition ever.

Funny thing is, they all know that they by themselves can't beat the Warriors, otherwise they would meet in LA (Clippers), them however forgoing salary to join the Spurs machine, now that would give the Warriors pause.
