BC Tony is injured (is he done?)
and you need to pay Patty anyways.
some would rather just pay Georgie and sent Patty on his way. Georgie is a good shooter, better defender, creator, can play both on and off the ball and a legit starter quality guard until Murray is ready... (Patty is not)... need I say more?
He's also a Spur like player.
I'm still upset at George for missing a wide open 3 pointer in game 6 against Memphis in the 2011 playoffs. He air balled it badly. I think he had trouble with the pressure and he choked on a very makeable shot. I really think if he had made the shot, the Spurs could have won that game and forced a game 7. I just didn't like his play in crunch time when he was on the Spurs. I didn't like his defense on Nash in the 2010 playoffs either. I thought his defense was very overrated by some of the posters here. I really liked George Hill as a person, but I just don't know about him as a player. I didn't like his play in crunch time. Maybe he has toughened up and improved in that area since he left, but if not, I don't think I'd want him back on the team again because I don't fully trust him in those situations.

I agree with comments on both sides of this coin. Just hope the front office makes the right decision for the team. I used to like him a lot and remember some of his great plays but I agree with some of his limitations and choking moments. Man, I am torn about this.

He will likely be back. Pop loved him as a player and to get back the player that got you Kawhi is a bonus.
We need guards. Manu and Parker are done. We need another guard and Hill knows the system and Pop would want Hill to mentor Murray, Forbes and possibly Archidiacono.
With those four and Mills would allow us to draft a big man to replace Gasol and Aldridge. Maybe trade up in the draft for Zach Collins of Gonzaga.

He was a lot younger and that was a long ass time ago. He's not the best PG in the market but Spurs unlikely can get CP3 and Lowry is a worse playoff choker.

How about being upset with Patty at all the shots he missed last series against OKC, including a potential game winning 3 once Danny stole the ball after the inbounds where Manu was fouled. Everyone has a moment they blew it. Patty has been missing from 3 so far and not doing a good job of setting up offense either. And he's a worse defender.

Everything depends on Pau. If even opts in it's not even a possibility. If Pau does opt out I'm sure PATFO will meet with Hill, given how much Pop loves him.
As ive said for the past 3 years .... pau

Reading a lot of these comments, I wonder if I'm the only person who watched Patty in the playoffs. I'd like for the Spurs to land a top-tier PG, but that's probably not happening. If they're ready to commit to Murray and Forbes/White at the point, I guess it's okay to blow off Hill. I sure as wouldn't want him on some near-max deal, but I also wouldn't say I just don't want him here no matter what.

My ideal scenario is to bring in Beverley to be for Dijon/White what Speedy/Avery were for Tony. I don't know whether that would be doable at all. Send LMA/Danny to the Clips for Beverley/Jordan.

I honestly did not think the Spurs had the budget to sign Hill. Besides, we have a ton of point guards.

Says who? He's surrounded by . Even Duncan almost left to Orlando. Kawhi is a Cali boy, I could easily see him wanting to join a Cali team to be close to home.

Hill was the only FA I was open for but to me it makes sense. FA talent makes everybody excited but more times than not doesnt work. It worked for GS but they were already good b4 KD. Was Cleveland a superteam? Not really, sure Kyrie is good but Love didnt do what he was supposed to do. T Thompson and Jefferson were who were good. Were building from inside out. Do we want another Aldridge?

How did the talks break off with G. Hill? They were not even supposed to be talking before midnight, were they?

Quick question to anyone that might know, your post got me thinking, does Kawhi do much training in San Antonio? It seems the past few off-seasons I have read about him training back home somewhere in California. If he does the majority of his training there, I can see him definitely wanting to move back home full-time.

Youre correct in that the Spurs can't take for granted that Kawhi won't look around. Can't be blind and expect he'll definitely stay if they can't find or develop another All-Star for him to play with.

There's some major differences between Kawhi and Tim though. TD looked at Orlando after 3 seasons in the NBA iirc. Weren't really roots set down in San Antonio yet. Had the ring but it was a strike year and a plodding offense, also had the major injury on his mind. Kawhi already won a ring against a superteam and was a hair away from going back to back. He'll have been in San Antonio 8 years by the time he's a FA.

And lets face it, the Spurs are damn good despite a bunch of es looking at Houston and OKC paper rosters and ting their jorts. If they continue to be a top 5 club it will be hard to leave where you're comfortable. The grass ain't always greener. Succession plan from Pop to next coach will be key.

Unlike Duncan who lived in SA in the off season right from the get go, Kawhi goes back to California every off season.

So do many other NBA players whether they're from LA or not. Besides as long as you're not in a bad weather city, I'm not sure it matters for a guy like Kawhi who isn't doing but rest and practice during the season.

Yall are hand-wringing over a Mills deal but you're afraid he'll want to go play with a broke down Blake Griffin at 30+ with an unmovable deal? And nobody wants to play for the Kings ever. If you've been to Sacramento you'd know why. they have the same problem the city of San Antonio has when it comes to attracting FAs.

The Lakers are a legitimate threat but they might blow their load next offseason.
