The league was ty in 2001 when the Lakers won it all with such dominant ease and a core built for more les.They only won it (barley) 1 more time with that core. Their time is coming. They have 2 more years and then they implode. They won't be able to overcome it either.
OMG, I can't believe I just read a level-headed reasoned response to this off-season. I agree about the challenge for next off-season. Hopefully they turn Aldridge into a longer-term solution during the season, so it's more than just Kawhi and Pop with half a foot out the door.

Good move for the Raps, since it's only 3 years..they weren't going to contend and it's way too difficult to tank in the terrible East, might as well stay relevant in a terrible conference with an ownership group that won't accept losing..they could also quickly fall off a cliff in TO with the Leafs surging if they became mediocre again, too difficult in this city..

Yeah, that would have been my first option. Failing that or an upgrade of any sort (Millsap to Aldridge, Hill to Green), I'd have rather they maximize '18 flexibility and go cheap with a Meeks and minimal veteran 3rd PG. Is it? People get consumed with average annual value, but Nets supposedly had significant interest. How do we know their offer wasn't something like 3/$50M and Spurs just added a 4th year? Maybe it wasn't, but either way it doesn't make sense on a macro level, for reasons I explained above.

I think this era is precisely analogous to those years 2000-2002 or so when there was one dominant team and most of the league was terrible. There had been years of ty drafts and if you look at the last half dozen drafts at least they have been absolutely terrible. There are no good players coming into the league. The big free agent get this year was Jimmy Butler, a player who can't even get his team wins in a ty Eastern Conference and who would barely move the needle ten years ago.
The league really does need to contract. It'll never happen, but it really does. It would make the overall product so much better on several levels.
Silver is too much of a puss to do much of anything and contracting teams probably means losing money and we can't have that.
I don't think it needs to contract. It's been this big for years and has had good and exciting teams. It's just a ty era. I think there's a problem with how players are being developed in high school and college. Too many players coming into the league who will never learn how to play ball.
It's great if you're into big city lifestyle, but extremely expensive for housing(750 000 USD for an average or even below average house in the city)..otherwise, ya, entertaining, multicultural, live, etc..
If you aren't completely against cold weather, it's actually not that bad, in that regard..it's far milder than the rest of the country outside of BC..if you're from Texas, it would probably be tough, though..we were getting -40C nights 2 winters ago..

Been thinking the same thing re Butler. He's vastly overrated imo. Have to see what they do in Minny but I wouldn't be surprised to see them as a6-7 seed in a tougher west.
