Wow. Why are they doing that? Is he looking for too much money, or do they not consider him a great prospect anymore?
They need his cap hold to make their annual signing of a Spur backup center. This year, it's Dedmon.

Simmons 3 for 27 with a team option for year 3 is what i'm guessing.

Less money for Simmons with every new news
I'm kind of pissed off with Simmons. He should just sign a 3 year deal with a player option for year 3, and if he bets on himself and improves by then, he can still get an even bigger contract than he was looking for this season.

Dude's bet on himself for quite awhile. He ing paid for an NBDL tryout. He deserves to get paid.

Wow. We just posted something similar, must be on the same wavelength regarding this one. I went with the player option instead of team option. I doubt he'd go for a team option because if he does great the Spurs will pick it up, but if it's a player option he can opt out and still try for a huge payday as he'd still be just under 30 years old by then.

And the Nets don't have to offer KCP a super big contract right? Seeing as there's really not going to be any compe ion for KCP with so many teams that had cap space having already used it. (assuming Atlanta doesn't match what the Knicks are offering Tim Hardaway Jr and the Wizards matching the Nets for Otto).

Probably no way for the Spurs to do it, but I'd be OK with trading Green if they could somehow get KCP.

He NEVER would have had a chance at this payday if it wasn't for the Spurs. On 95% of the teams in the league he wouldn't have played this deep in the playoffs and gotten to show what he can do. IMO, he owes the Spurs a little bit of loyalty for that. Unless the Spurs are undercutting him, I don't think he should be putting them through the ringer trying to scrounge together a few extra dollars. Is he really getting massive offers? It doesn't sound like it.

I wouldn't mind KCP but we don't really need more guards unless we're trading Green or Simmons leaves. But him being a poor shooter isn't really that enticing

Yeah, I had a look at his shooting stats a couple of hours ago and changed my mind on being interested in getting rid of Green for him. How is his defense?

His true shooting isn't much lower than Danny's even though he was on a Detroit team.

I was under the assumption that he was a pretty good shooter until you said he was otherwise and I had to look up his stats. Yikes.

So Detroit get Bradley from Boston for Morris and KCP.

What evidence do you have that he's putting them through the ringer? The Spurs might have told him to go out and get an offer sheet and they'd just match.

Shot 38% from 3. Not amazing, but really on a bad team that's not terrible. He's not going to be asked to produce as much on a team like the Spurs and those numbers will go way up.

I mean Green's % isn't much better, KCP's overall skill set on offense is much better. Not great on defense but not terrible either.

What is it that some of you like about a 6'5" guy whose career EFT% is below .480, and who can't get to the FT line for ? If it's about potential, we've got plenty of that under contract right now.

The thread about him being offered 9 million per year type of contract. You could be right, but if he was offered a contract by the Spurs, then he is definitely trying to scrounge up as much dollars as he can get.

His best bet is to sign for 3 years and get a player option on year 3. He can then build upon what he did at the end of last season and then go for a massive payday when he's 29. There's really no need to lock himself in to a 4 year contract right now.

Ehh if he doesn't sign this year I'm done with him as a Spurs prospect. He's in his prime now and I don't see him getting any better. No thanks.

SVG ed up their cap space to the point where they couldn't afford him.

The Spurs, being the Spurs, probably told him just about that. "Get the best deal you can for yourself. If we can possibly match, we will. If we can't, go get paid." , Pop had to tell Boban to go with the bigger deal, rather than trying to stay here for a LOT less.
I doubt Pop would have turned Boban down if he really, really wanted to keep him. If Simmons said the same to Pop and wanted to sign for cheap, I'm pretty sure he'd be signed right now. Pop would still give him a fair deal, but yeah, if he wanted to sign cheap, I'm pretty sure it would already be done. He wouldn't be telling him to go try and get more money elsewhere if he wanted to do what Boban requested.

For the record, I don't think the Spurs ever offered Simmons 9 million per.
