    Good low risk/high reward signing.
At this price and only 2 years it's a low risk that won't clog up the roster if he doesn't work out.

BUT, if Gay can return to form he is an accomplished scorer and has the physical tools to be a swing defender capable of switching positions 2-4, which is at a premium in the modern NBA.
You're seeing the FO emphasize length in recent offseasons, with Murray, White and Gay being long for their positions.

No. Unless we move a guard along with LMA for a decent piece. We don't need to keep adding guards.
Which of the following teams would you want?

    Team 1 (all guards)
    Stephan Curry
    Jimmy Butler
    James Harden
    Russell Westbrook
    Kyrie Irving

    Team 2 (traditional team)
    PG: Tony Parker
    SG: Pat Connaughton
    PF: Lou Amundson
    SF: Damjan Rudez
    C: John Henson

    Case closed.

Couldn't even put Rose on your "all guards" team

It's RC's job to make the team better, Rose is a former regular season MVP, if they sign him it's up to Pop to make it all work. Pop isn't Droses daddy.
I agree. But Pop obviously makes decisions based on what he thinks or believes. And whatever everyone else says. If we had a chance to get Lebron and it required giving up Parker, I can see Pop keeping Parker.

    Yep

One could argue that playing for the Spurs actually extends your career so one is younger when coming onboard.
History supports this👍🏾😉. It's been a lot worst dudes that have worn the silver and black🙈 Our fans are way to emotional!!!

Rudy Gay's extensive playoff experience should be a welcome addition to the Spurs.

Let's get this straight. Gay has not been to the playoffs much. But this year is his coming out party. Sure, Gay injured his achilles, but he takes a lot of pride in his game. He's had the surgery, he will get in shape and he will be bustin' asses all next season.

Simmons showed up in both playoff series for us.

Kyle Anderson had one good game when the series was over and the Warriors were coasting for the Finals. We get it, you love Kyle and think he'll be a ten time All-Star down the road. Cool story.
See it's things like this... no matter what someone always qualifies with personal bias. He did well when he played. He played in different situations but in general in all three series did well with the opportunities afforded. He really only had one inefficient game which was game 2. You can only judge guys with the opportunities that are afforded. If he sucked every time he played but one game .. ok but he didn't. He was solid in 8 minutes or 20 for the entire playoffs. Simmons was given his opportunities and he took advantage of them ... Kyle got his and also took advantage of them.

I didn't say he'd be an all star either... so you are all hyperbolic and pedantic.

I found a way we could get Bonds and Griffey, and we wouldn't have to give up that much.
We thought you were dead and had to promote someone else. But you get your old job back at your regular pay, and we'd have to dock you for the days you missed.

Here's how I see the addition pro and con.

    1. Not a great 3 pt shooter in a league that is evolving into perimeter players who can shoot the 3. Average?
    2. 32 years old. The legs start to go and the jumper is the first sign followed by slow defense. Or is it the other way round? .
    3. Achilles tendon injury--WTF. Our contract better have an 'out' if he can't physically perform. Adding 3 to 2 doesn't bode well.
    4. Patfo always hopes that some of the veteran wisdom/ability is still there.
    5. If we keep a lot of younger players, you have to have a veteran or two on court to steady some of our youngsters
    6. Gotta give Pop the benefit of the doubt until proven wrong. He likes to bring in vets in hopes they still can play. List is long with few outstanding winners.

Guess what? We'll just have to wait and see what develops. This isn't a slam dunk.
    Fair evaluation.

I don't know. There's still time to think about it. The question is what to do with Parker if I give Gay his nickname. Does he become "Lil' Phoenix"? But maybe Tony is the real Phoenix. We'll see when he comes out.
But "Phoneix in Waiting" is a terrible name for Gay. I don't like "Gaynix". I just don't know. If they got Jordan Farmar, they could stand next to each other and it would read, "Gay Farmar". Which was part of a joke I created when I
    was just a wee lad.

What another name for a gay farmer?
    A Jolly Rancher.

I thought it was funny back then.

Some of y'all are really overthinking this signing. Injury be damned, we only used the MLE to sign him... it's a low risk, high reward move for a talented player. It's not like it makes us any worse.. Not like we were heavy favorites to win it all next year and now this signing suddenly jeopardizes that

i wanted tyreke back when he was a FA leaving the kings (tbh thought manu would imminently retire... me), but he got paid more than the MLE to play for new orleans. i still think he's a good player when on the floor, but his injury history is just too much, so it would really have to be a below market contract
1 year 3.3 with memphis. nice deal for them

Think Spurs were his third choice. Thunder were rumored first, but didn't have access to MLE and moved onto Patterson. Heat (lives in Miami) were likely second, but choose Olynyk over him.

Don't know what to make of this . . .

    - On the one hand, they needed to raise their ceiling and if he looks reasonably well recovered, it's a low risk, somewhat high reward gamble because the philosophical change of two bigs to one could improve the offense. Most perimeter based skills he was average at as an SF, he should be above average at as a PF and the same goes for Aldridge going from PF to C.

    - On the other hand, getting further and further away from "Spurs basketball" with a third ISO forward.
    - There is no rim roller/glass cleaner in the starting five and none of the former in the rotation period
    - Is Aldridge on board with less minutes/touches/primarily playing C? Is Gasol on board with less minutes? Will Gay, in search of one last big pay day, be willing to sacrifice counting stats?

Then there's the matter of too many rotation bodies . . .

    - Does Gay free them up to trade Aldridge for a pick/prospect?
    - Does this mean they're less likely to match on Simmons or Ginobili is retiring?
    - If it means none of the three, then that leaves one rotation spot for Anderson/Bertans and Hanga on the outs because the final roster spot will have to go to a true C.
