If you're a top prospect, you should play well in summer league. Still, good sl performances arent worthy od praise. Us spurs fans speak from experience watching kyle Anderson dominate sl last year only to crash in the regular season.

Terrible sl performances are worthy of ridicule. You're mostly playing against guys who will be truck drivers and grocery baggers in a couple of years.

This kid is a bust, the overall level of the SL is so bad that he can put numbers, worse than pick-up games.

6-20 tonight, 2-10 from 3, and 7 TOs. He got a meaningless triple double though, so Laker fans will likely be spewing some semen.

Get this, the backcourt for the Cavs measures 6'3" and 5'9". Longo couldn't even go off on that. Also, he let the 5'9" player bust him for 25 points. Isn't this guy like 6'7" with a huge wingspan

I told you, Bynumite. He doesn't have the quickness to keep up with NBA PGs, even 5'9" truck drivers.

Yeah, I watched a block and the Cavs guy was a midget so its all glorified , as some said that Caruso guy looks much more solid.
By the way whats that Lonzo throws and commentors call a 3 pointer?

All you need to do, my fellow Spurs talkers is check the box score .

My box score has him at 16/10/12 with 2 blocks and 5 steals

Critique: shot selection. He takes bad shots that worked in UCLA but not so much in the pros. Turnovers. Well, can't complain too much. A few were due to inferior teammates not used to playing with him. There about 3 (of 7) I counted that were his own fault.

BLUF (bottom line up front), we got our future PG. I'll role with his growing pains. He's a rook that will make mistakes. I could live with that while he figures it out.

Like I said, shot selection is bad. He won't be Rubio though. He's a midget compared to Longo. I expect Longo to eventually use his 6'6" frame to punish PGs in the paint. That will help keep his %s up. Plus he'll get favorable whistles due to his LaVar enduced popularity.

One good game and now you're an instant fan after decrying this pick

He was awful. In no universe is 14 points (last two points were FTs at the end of the game off an intentional foul when the game was clearly over) on 20 shots a "good game." You could live with that if he played lock down defense, like Rubio or Kidd, but he let some 5'9" no name drop 25 points on him (yeah, in 26 shots, but that still beat Longo's efficiency). Then he committed 7 TOs. Awful assist-to-TO ratio.

He won't be the future of anything unless he figures out how to shoot. This isn't the 90's when pass-first PGs were more viable since the game was more half-court oriented then. Longo needs to be at least around 20ppg player who is an efficient threat from deep. Because the league is so centered around offense coming from the pick-and-roll, your PGs need to be big scoring threats to keep defenses from just packing.

    That's the reality.

I never said he was awful or questioned his talent. I didn't like his baggage (aka LaVar). But he's a Laker now so I'll root for him to succeed.

That being said, he has several holes in his game that needs fixing (poor midrange game, poor shot selection (and form ), low defensive IQ (and poor effort), too many unforced TOs. These are fixable IMO. Rookie mistakes, I can live with. He will learn from them. Not worried here.

Funny mid points out poor shooting and low ppg, but claims overall metrics and analytics paramount to good performance. Which is it? When Kobe the kid busted nuts all over ppgs he couldn't handle it. Fake analysis personified.

    - he even said "wake him when he scores 30" or some like det... He dropped 36/11/8 (almost his 3rd triple dub) just last night and mid still won't concede that we have a nice young 19 year old PG on our hands. He's 19 - think about that.

14 points on 20 shots will typically translate to poor metrics.

We don't have metrics on Longo yet, obviously.

You guys are so reactionary. Always think I'm hating on your shiny new toy draft picks because they're Lakers. No. I've credited the Ingram pick, even betting 50.00 he would win ROTY over Simmons last season. He fits the mold of the modern NBA SF. D'Bust, Longo, Randle don't fit the mold per their respective positions of "what works" today. D'Bust is probably closest, but he's too slow and too stupid.

Longo will need to totally rework his jumper and gain a step athletically. Until then, he's a poor man's Jason Kidd in a league where Jason Kidd type players don't impact games like they used to.

I said, "consistent threat" for 30.

Longo has only broken 20 points once this Summer League and only broken 50% shooting once. He's failed to impress scoring wise thus far. I mean, Bryn Forbes is averaging 30 points per game in Summer League. You see me excited about it? No. It's in' Summer League.

And he'll never be a consistent threat to score 30 - that's not his game. That doesn't mean he can't score though.

With a player like him, it's better for him to have 12-15 assists than 30 points anyway.

Keep up, highlights. We don't have metrics on Longo yet, so all I can go by is the box score. And even then, I don't really care about the traditional "per game" stats, but Longo is shooting terribly from the field and not getting to the line enough, which translates into a PPS (points-per-shot), which will usually translate into poor metrics.
