If Monroe is strictly limited to 8-10 minutes a game against only back-ups, he may come close to offsetting all the uncontested layups and dunks the man he's guarding will get in transition by getting a few putback layups. That's best case scenario. If the guy he guards has any perimeter skills shooting or with dribble drives, all the worse for Monroe. $5 million for him sounds ridiculous even in an inflated NBA financial market.

Monroe makes Kevin Love look like Usain Bolt.

think old Anthony Mason, the one that died a few years back... maybe Oakley, too
Oakley wouldn’t survive in today’s ultra soft nba. He’d be fouled out in 3 minutes playing his brand of defense.

Mason though will excel. He was ultra strong, got long arms and quick lateral quickness. He can guard players from SG to C. He has great ball handling skills and can great passing vision. His range is not out to three point land but he’s got a decent mid range game (I think he can learn to shoot 3s). He’s a better crazier version of draymond green.

robert covington basically became what people were hoping pondexter would be
Never got over this weird knee injury for the Pelicans.

How does Demps still have a job? Giving up their first-round pick makes this another panic move that will just make it even harder for them to build around Davis and Cousins going forward.
Because he was probably told before the season that if he fails to make the playoffs again, he’s gone. So he’s sacrificing the future to secure the 7-8 seed and get swept.
I really liked the trade. The first round pick won't be that high especially compared to a very good player like Mirotic who fits well with this team and is signed thru next season. He doesn't help the Pelicans defensively like Cousins did, but he makes them a much better offensive team. This team will get at least the 6th seed and battle for a top 4 seed in the West. I wasn't even sold on signing Cousins to a 5 year max before his injury since he turns over the ball a ton and consistently settles for a bad shots. Now I wouldn't even consider it with the injury.

    Congrats son:

Too bad Monroe didn't land here. Not sure if Okafor gets any minutes.

Mirotic is better than Monroe, tbh, even though the Pelicans gave up way too much for him.

Considering the Spurs’ draft history, I think they’re better keeping the pick and DG.

    Good or bad move?
Danny knocked down 5-7 3pt shots last night. I personally see it as a lateral or downgrade. The only thing Avery has over Danny is age. Danny defends as well, and is taller.

Avery Bradley isn’t even that good. He hasn’t hit a three pointer in a game going on three weeks now. His shooting has taken a massive dive in recent weeks. And he’s tiny. He’s basically a 6’2 version of Danny Green albeit couple years younger, so not sure why the Spurs would not only trade for him but give up a first in the deal.

Good move for the Spurs. I think Danny Green's time with Pop has run its course. Avery is from UT I believe so for him to "come home" may be just what he needs. I think Pop can motivate him

Not an earth shattering move, but a good one for San Antonio - if it's consummated of course.

I agree, AB is just massively overrated.
