Which back of the draft prospects did we wiff on? DJ is a pretty good steal tbh.
They won a le in 2014 and went to the conference finals last year. What a load of horse .
1. No new gimmick from Pop this year with regard to coaching. Among his recent brilliant ideas were shifting from team ball to iso for Kawhi, settling for midrange jumpers to accommodate Aldridge, and starting two bigs in the pace and space era.
2. They’re right, after 2011 there really wasn’t anyone solid. We’ve gotten solid bench pieces which is good value for 29 but it doesn’t solve the problem of being a small market team and failing to recruit stars.
Year in and year out, we see SA fail at recruiting bigger names and they end up settling for decent value players who play better than their contracts. Prior to the Superteam era that would’ve been great, but winning another championship requires more than loyalty contracts. I keep remembering the missed chances in the 2007-2013 seasons because PATFO was bent on saving dollars or signing washed out veterans (Stoudamire, Kurt Thomas, Finley, etc.). I always posited (to myself, at least) the Spurs could have invested in a nice young player to take over the reins to sustain momentum. It came in 2011 but it might have been a bit too late. Wasted Duncan’s prime either because of penny-pinching or SA just isn’t a top FA destination. I guess it’s the latter and it’s a problem too difficult to solve.
Another point however is we haven’t seen this roster at full strength in almost a year. Whew.
Kawhi ain't comin back until Parker and Ginobili are gone.
Just out of curiosity, who are these teams getting "the bigger names" to join them?
Of the 30 NBA teams, how many have signed a bigger FA than LMA in the last five years?
Correct me if I’m wrong but the Spurs tried to get Chris Paul through FA, Kyrie through trade, none of which panned out.
2017
Hayward to Boston
Millsap to Nuggets
2016
Durant to GS
Horford to BOS
2015
Monroe to MIL
Of all these players, arguably only Durant is better than LMA. If your point is that SA does not have a hard time attracting huge names, take note Aldridge heavily considered SA not only because of the talent but because it’s closer to home.
Bigger cities always have leverage over the smaller markets, except for the Lakers who are understandably being refused for good reason.
And which of them are in big markets?
Most likely Kawhi to be traded while Parker gets a new loyalty contract.
That's how things work. If you don't like..there's the door, Dewayne Dedmon.
For a reason Parker brought Joff and we missed Dedmon.
What's about Parker as Spurs' GM after RC gone?

I saw Yahoo and didn't even bother clicking. ing horse
To backtrack a bit:
2010
James, Bosh to MIA
2012
Caron Butler (Spurs courted him) bolted to LAC
Chandler to NYK
Billups to LAC
2013
Ray Allen to MIA
Jamal Crawford to LAC
Steve Nash to LAL
Elton Brand to DAL
2015
Pau Gasol to CHI
*may have gotten my dates wrong
May I just note that desirability isn’t just measured by stars coming to your team, but even scrubs. I recall having Danny Granger spurn the Spurs for Miami (though he wasn’t really playable), Caron Butler refuse the Spurs multiple times. Remember that time practically every big man save for Francisco Elson said no to the Spurs.
We courted for Greg Oden, which was for the best. We did get Finley way back though. Bret Barry to a lesser extent but that was a match made in heaven. LMA was huge though.
Your research is commendable.
My point is only that all fan bases think that their team should get most of the big FAs. It's logistically impossible so most fans feel like their team is uniquely unable to get their fair share of great players.
In fact, most teams get no big-name FAs. Even the Lakers have signed no one of note in years.
If Spurs fans feel slighted, trust me, Laker fans are still pining over Aldridge and complaining about how they blew that awkward seduction.
Exactly. And they're in the playoffs this year. Outside of the Leonard thing they still are ridiculously successful over the last 20 years.
I mean Hayward only went to Boston cause his college coach is there, tbh.
When these two realize Jabari Young RT this article..I can hear them "Kawhi, take your Jabari guy and go away"
![]()
While I agree with u... The game against Houston WASN'T a must-win
I interact with Jabari all the time - I have no issues with him at all even though, like you, I don’t agree with a lot of his Kawhi takes
Right? Just add three parts European, add 1 part floor spacing, bake at 200 minutes of rest, and enjoy 5 rings.
That author is clearly harboring angst.
I have a feeling you may be right on that. Even if the Spurs and PATFO want him back, and Kawhi was willing to come back, I have a feeling that he would only sign under the condition they retire.
All of which just makes me think the Spurs are likely to trade him this offseason.
top 5 pg all time? according to whom other than his family members?
Parker isn't even top 5 PG he met on the floor duing his career
Horrible takes in a horribly written article tbh.
