Lost in all the shuffle about the Spurs having the highest pick they've had since Tim is them having the 49th pick the second round. I've talked a number of times about how having mid-seconds helps with flexibility. Obviously, having a second like 10-15 picks higher would be even better, but the 49th pick has legit value compared to their normal picks. Like 18 and 49 may get the team up to 16, 15 or 14, which can make the difference between getting the guy they want without having to commit a more valuable asset. 49 is also high enough to get future value in a trade, similar to how the Spurs turned the 2008 45 into the 2008 48 and the 2009 37. In other words, it could help the team get a collection of mid-seconds that end up being surprisingly helpful in roster-building.

Of course, the 49th pick also has its own draft value. Decent international prospects go in that range, and they may get a chance at the last of the red-flag college guys who have first-round talent.
    Great point!

Kevin Knox will be a lottery pick.
He seems like the type of prospect that could slip in the draft just right outside the lottery which was why I said "best case scenario".

If PATFO don't trade down then Jontay Porter (more skilled Channing Frye) might be the best fit alongside LMA. He's young but he can really benefit from spending two seasons with Pau as he already has solid court vision .

Spurs should pick Miles Bridges or Gary Trent Jr if they fall that far tbh

Both good shooters, unlikely they won't be picked earlier though
Miles Bridges is a slightly better version of Deshaun Thomas. He doesn't have the athleticism, doesn't have the defense, and is too reliant on his jumper.

Gary Trent JR ? Not impressed at all.

I could see a Kawhi + #18 offer getting a very high lottery pick in return, if he indeed is done with SA.

Kawhi without the pick will give you a high lottery pick plus players.

Me too, im not too high on trent.

not agree about miles bridges, he’s athletic, can score, rebound , block. I don’t know about his man on man defense.
Wich i don’t like is that he’s a tweener and if anderson, gay, kawhi are back next year he’ll not be a need.

You got a good eye. I really like Porter too and think his skillset would mesh really well with LMA. I dont think he has a high ceiling but he could do a lot of what Pau does now. And from i can tell hes got a pretty good head on his shoulder.

I like knox too btw. Hes got star potential. Not all star or superstar but just a solid player.

Judging by what I’ve read in NBADraft.net, these are the guys SA would most likely pick:

Troy Brown (good court vision, solid length and height, 6’11” wingspan)
Khyri Thomas (stayed long in college, good defense, decent rebounding for a guard)
Zhaire Smith (excellent defender, 6’9” wingspan for 6’5”, high BBIQ)
Elie Okobo (French, excellent wingspan 6’8” for 6’2”, adequate defender)
Mitc Robinson (good length, talent is there, 7’4” wingspan)
Jontay Porter (good fundamentals, has an outside shot)
Dzanan Musa (high motor, good BBIQ, serves as leverage against Kyle Anderson demanding more money)
Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk (was called a young Ginóbili, that’s enough for me)

Not sure if NBADraft.net is reliable so I’d like to know what other websites I can check out.

If they’re going with team needs I prefer they take Robinson/Porter and then draft Goga Bitadze or Donte DiVincenzo with the second round pick. Josh Okogie can also gain some consideration given his seven-foot wingspan at 6’4. Same logic applies to Shake Milton (6’11 wingspan, 6’5). Grayson Allen just....nope. Also if there are any Project Spurs writers here I appreciate any form of credit since we all know you lurk here.

    18th pick!!! Ode to joy!

And no, this isn't the Spurs future starting lineup. That may however be Manu and Tony at the end of the video.

    - Use 18 and a small asset to get one of the Clips’ 2 late lotto picks.

    - If Leonard things explodes, trade him to CLE for Nets pick and Love.

    - Armed with Love, Clips 12, Nets 8, trade Love to PHX with one of those picks for their Top 3 pick and parts (keeping in mind Phx also has 15th pick)

    - For Leonard, Spurs net two lotto picks in THIS draft, some seriviceable young players like Cedí Osman/Bender, and if lucky some long term cap relief if they’re able to ship out Patty/Pau.

    - Take LMAs temperature to see if he’s OK being “the man” a little longer as youngsters grow up. If so, find vet help with MLE/cap space (not sure which spurs will have)

I guess not too bad to only slip 4 spots: one spot for each playoff game.
Told you it would only be 3-4 spots to keep the playoff streak alive, and not 7 like you said it would.

Three spots was impossible. Four spots only happened by them getting the worst record of a WC playoff team and winning a coin toss. I wasn't expecting them to blow both the Lakers and Clippers games when making the 20-21 projection. Your four spots was a best case scenario only achieveable by getting this worst case scenario playoff matchup (GSW or Houston).

Kawhi doesn't want to be here.

Trade him to the Suns (or whoever outlucks the Suns) for the 1st pick.

Draft the best big with the 1.

Find a decent shooter with the 18.

We need the best SF available at 18, doesn't matter if Kawhi is back next year or not.

He won't stay in PHO. There is not enough help. His people will let them know that, so, no trade will happen. When they trade him, it will be to a playoff team, somewhere where there is a likelihood of him staying. The playoff team with the fullest cupboard and best assets is Boston.

Or he could be a got saying he'll only go to LA so that Ainge's offer wouldn't be very good and the Spurs would have to trade him for crap like Indiana was forced to with Paul George.

Like I said, I see Jaylen and the Sacto pick as the floor of Boston's offer spectrum. Trading a pick likely to be 5-10, and your 4th string SF (Kawhi, Hayward, Tatum) isn't much of a risk for a top 3-5 player, and it's better for us than taking out the Laker's trash.

I'd send him to Detroit for a trade exception before I'd take the Lakers' crap.
