I smell the Detroit Pistons.
This is just poor talent evaluation. A lot guys can shoot like Curry in practice. And it isn't his overrated, unclutch shooting per se. It's that he is quite possibly the worst guard defender in the league. Forbes makes Gary Neal look like Gary Payton on defense.
I smell the Detroit Pistons.
I'm still holding out hope that maybe Bryn is being brought back to scrub the toilets at the AT&T center.
It's good to see someone with so little talent succeed in the NBA.
because the numbers are irrelevant. i'd be upset even if we learned it was for the vet minimum.
I'd agree he was atrocious at the start, but I think he got way better as the season went on. And again, he might be asked to be a primary 3 or shooter off the bench, and just funnel the guys inside. You know Pop has a defensive system that has remained at or very near the top for 21 years. Stop placing your talent evaluations above goat coach.
If someone’s on the team I’ll root for their success no doubt. But about his confidence, there’s a reason why it’s low almost always after a high.. the dude has super low BBIQ. Almost exclusively on D. Unfortunately it’ll always be the same story unless he’s a guy that only comes in with the intent of shooting (per Pops order) or if he comes in at garbage time.
Other than that he’s at best a net 0 and a wasted signing.
The point is the team has no forwards, besides post Achilles 32 yr old Gay and a guy who wants to plays somewhere else, and whether the two you had as backups are overvalued or not, they had experience, and were proven. The ones you are getting from the gleague are a gamble. It’s very much fine to take them as depth and see if they develop but another to take them in fresh from the gleague to be rotation players right away. That’s the point.
Forbes is not that bad. He can become a nice spark plug, he has a nice in between game and he knows how to use his 3PT shot as a threat to get past defenders. I actually don't think he's a bad defender either unless he's put on guys that tower over him (like Klay) which is more on Pop than him. He's overagressive on closeouts sometimes but that can be improved with more playing time/experience.
Much rather have him than Belli. He is redundant though, that's the real issue more than his game.
This guy was our best shooter last year. All the guards sucked because of inconsistency from our pg and no playingmaking as Kawhi and Gay were out for so long. Bring in some better pieces for playmaking and penetration Bryn could easily play a 8th man role and score some points against smaller line ups.
Nothing SA has done this offseason can be considered truly bad, but I hate it nonetheless.
Bringing back Rudy - why
Letting TP walk - ok, i’m Ok with it but it was not a big deal he signed.
Using your MLE on Beli - why
Signing forbes after you have a ton of guards already and used your most valuable asset outside of Kawhi on Beli- why
Not matching Kyle who is a very good player - why
Nothing that does any real damage, but kind of stupid all of it.
Fair enough. I might be too if the numbers are out of sync with his role that I'd expect him to have. But again, I'll still wait until I see what opus RC is working on with the Kawhi trade.
Cant people understand that there are a LOT of moves still to be made. What looks like solid ing ground today, might not even be solid ground by start of the season.
Spurs are making a trade....
It’s obvious by now. Question is if Kawhi is part of it..
Malarkey! Beli brings a lot more to the table than this midget.
Let the dust settle....
Do we know that this is RCs ultimate plan? What happens if we trade with Philly for exactly the kind of player you say we need? Or bring over one of stashes?
Rather give a shot to the second round pick, metu, than another underwhelming season from Forbes.
Disagree Belli and Gay deals are solid value unless you are adamant we rebuild. Not matching Kyle is tough. That's a good chunk of change for a player that does not fit the roster as currently constructed.
True. The one thing I really hated was Pop played him in situations he was overmatched probably 75% of the time. He’s slotted as a wing and he’s not only short, but also short armed and average in athleticism. If he was matched with guys similar to him he could rock and had some very good scoring games last season but obviously he played overmatched a ton and he really only knows scoring. Doesn’t do anything else. For a guy who doesn’t do anything else well he also wasn’t that great of a scorer, very streaky. He’s depth I tend to think. Although the prospect of him being spotted as a wing is something I dread.
Agree with all of this. Unless a trade is a certainty, these moves make no sense.
there is nothing to like about this
A Philly trade , or any Kawhi trade that brings forwards to the team is the only thing that makes sense. In that case, Bertans agent has a small window to not screw this up and overplay his hand.
Maybe Pop has had him taking crash course lessons in film study this summer much like he wants a guy with a bad shot getting up 5000 shots a day.
Or he might be part of a trade and he's being signed as the request of another teams trade package.
I'll take a wait and see.
I liked Forbes last year except his shot wasn’t falling. Worth the gamble at a low minimum contract.
