US cyberthreat at 'critical point': US intelligence chief
The threat of cyberattacks against the US is at a "critical point," the country's intelligence chief has warned, branding Russia the most "aggressive foreign actor" ahead of President Donald Trump's meeting with Vladimir Putin.
"The warning signs are there. The system is blinking. It is why I believe we are at a critical point," national intelligence director Dan Coats said Friday at an event in Washington.
"Today, the digital infrastructure that serves this country is literally under attack... with the worst offenders being Russia, China, Iran and North Korea," he said.
"Every day they are penetrating our digital infrastructure and conducting a range of cyber intrusions and attacks against targets in the United States."
Coats said they target businesses, all levels of government, private ins utions and elements of "critical infrastructure"—adding they are intended to undermine democracy on a daily basis, regardless of whether there are elections.
He identified Russia as the most aggressive, "no question."

Trump scraps cyber czar post after first appointee leaves
Cyber policy experts, legislators and former officials had urged Trump to replace Joyce and not abolish the position.
“I don’t see how getting rid of the top cyber official in the White House does anything to make our country safer from cyber threats,”
Mark Warner, the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence committee, said in a Twitter post on Tuesday.
Politico reported last week that
Bolton was trying to eliminate the top cyber policy role.
Joyce’s departure follows that of his boss, Tom Bossert, who oversaw his work on cyber security and was pushed out of the administration last month.

Pootin attacking USA and Manchurian Candidate Trash is dropping USA's defenses.
Will Trash, in Helsinki, bring up Pootin attacking USA?
Kremlin Focus Is On Media Influence, Not Voting Machines
Both activities, hacking and propaganda, were features of Russian meddling in 2016, as the Senate Intelligence Committee noted in a recent bipartisan report.
Mueller noted Russian intelligence agents created websites,
such as ActBlues.com, an intentional misspelling of a major Democratic funding hub, and
also fabricated social media pages,
personas and
hashtags to bait U.S. voters.
Those same strategies can be seen in two recent online attacks against Trump critics that experts said were Russian interventions.
The first was online robotic, or bot, attack, via Twitter, on organizers of a nationwide protest that coalesced around the hashtag #FamiliesBelongTogether, which Tim Chambers, a technologist and writer, do ented on Medium.com. “National gatherings with over 300,000 RSVPs were planning on using this hashtag,”
Trump allies retweeted misspellings of the protest hashtag, “thus spreading the decoy hashtag and diluting the real hashtag’s social reach,” Chambers said. “At its peak, I found 22,000 tweets a day were using the wrong hashtag… This was no accident. This was manufactured. One of our scans showed that all of the decoy hashtag tweets in just the last 72 hours had a potential reach of well over 8.9 million people.”
“When it comes to the FEC, I have some hope,” Holman said.
“Because the Republicans on the FEC have historically, since 2006, just shot down just any [proposed] regulation of foreign influence and disclosure of money spent on the Internet.
They’ve shot it down right and left, and just would glare at the Democratic commissioners when they would be proposing some sort of disclaimer requirements on the Internet.”
But such blanket opposition has now backfired, Holman said, and the FEC’s GOP-appointed commissioners know it.
“They only started realizing they really screwed up when it became evident that Russians used that dark money loophole that Republicans created to influence the elections,”

Serious people KNOW it's coming
Former CIA Director: Mueller’s Next Indictments Could Name Americans
according to former CIA Director Michael Hayden, there’s good reason to believe that more indictments are coming — and that Americans may be among those charged.
made him even more confident that prosecutors are laying the groundwork for future indictments against a “widening circle” of co-conspirators.
“The longer this goes on, the richer in detail we get, the more I begin to believe that we’re going to see a widening circle [of indictments] here,”
Rudy Giuliani tried to spin the indictment as “good news” and proof that no Americans were involved in the criminal conspiracy,
holy , transves e Julie Annie is senile, deranged, perfect lawyer for Trash
Legal experts say that any American who aided that effort
by facilitating the release of the stolen do ents or attempting to benefit from their release
could be charged for participating in the conspiracy —
even if they didn’t know the iden y of the person(s) they were working with.
According to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, “several Americans” corresponded with the indicted Russians “during the course of the conspiracy,”
Friday’s indictment lays out “what might be the clearest path towards an indictment charging an American with knowingly aiding the Russian effort.”
“If an American joined the conspiracy, he/she would be liable for all of it even if the American wasn’t aware of all of it,”
