In a season like this one coming up, there should be no reason to play Forbes ahead of white or walker
to be a positive on the court, forbes would probably have to shoot around 42% (3pt), unfortunately his size makes him a negative regardless of how much he works

Gary Neal couldn’t guard anyone. He would try to get charges instead of playing defense. He is also the guy who lost track of a guy missing a shoe during a Finals game. I don’t know how I got put on the defend Forbes team. I remember him missing a lot of makeable shots. I’m hoping he has better luck this year with his shot.
I forgot about that
Forbes does have a tendency to miss a bunch of open 3's, somehow he shot 39% on them, he also seems to beat him self up which can compound the problem. Neal was far from perfect but at least his confidence level never seemed to wane when his shot wasn't going in.
i'm not sold on forbes but then again i wasn't able to catch the full season last yr like seasons that came before. my sample size is small with forbes so maybe watching more games this season will show what some of yall see in the young buck.
Whats with all of these ing re s thinking Forbes can play "some" defense. Forbes is ing horrendous on defense.
Do you guys actually watch the games?
Maybe, maybe not. Mills is our sg and part time back up pg. Hopefully White takes on the back up pg role. Forbes will likely be 3rd string sg behind Belli.
Should Manu retire, Belli may play more 3 so Forbes will play some consistent minutes at sg for sure at that point. If many comes back I assume he our backup SF.
And yes. Walker is more than likely G league this year. He is only 19. He needs more grooming to be playoff ready.
The old saying, "you can never have too many shooters", doesn't apply to this current Spur's squad.
My only issues with Forbes/Bertans:
SA already has a logjam at guard and brought in more shooting with Beli, so why the need for Forbes? Beyond that, especially in Bertans case, what did he show that warranted sizeable increase in average annual salary, but a 2nd year guarantee?
Money wise it is pretty small. They want the kid around at minimal money. He could be a Spur for life. Nobody knows how long Belli, Manu, and Mills will be here. I can see Mills and Belli as trade bait. DJ could sign elsewhere in two years too. Ya never know.
Money is not the real issue with forbes although it should have been a team option. Forbes is just in a crowded backcourt and if they make moves to solve that problem then ok. But as of now they have not.
Bertans got a huge raise and I have no idea what he showed to deserve that even if I like him well enough. I get that it was money SA could not spend on other players but I don’t think if you let Forbes/Bertans go and added vet min players that SA would be worse off in the win-loss column.
We were crowded in a lot of areas last year too but it's not necessarily a bad problem to have, unless you dont know if your star player is coming back or not.
Bertans has value and many teams I am sure were interested. Bertans never got consistent minutes. It's his first semi significant contract which means you will see him play more and his true value will show.
Backcourt is crowded but DJ is still too raw, White is injury prone, Walker is not close to being ready, Manu is creaky old. It's not bad to have some corporate knowledge and depth for now. I foresee one transition year next year and then a much more balanced roster next year. Kawhi and Danny leaving in that manner probably took everybody off guard. Spurs should still win at least 52 games.
Makes sense I guess.
Mills and Gasol were designed too, there was a reason for that too?
Forbes is garbage, just like the rest of this roster...
I”m not a fan of paying limited players like Bertans where they HAVE to show marked improvement to even remotely justify their deals. That’s not good business. It’s possible he blows that contract out of the water, but I still don’t think he showed enough to earn that now.
Wipityyyyyyy
I'm all in on Bryn Forbes. Dude is going to ball out this year, book it.
A little like apples and oranges, though. Seems like Bryn guarded SFs more than Patty, but Patty guarded PGs more than Bryn.
Not expecting him to shine, but I certainly hope he does. I wouldn't say I am stretching out on his band wagon, but I will be rooting for him to exceed everybody's expectations.
Forbes is bigger, stronger and willing to fight harder on D than Mills.
Patty played more significant minutes against starters, but it’s a silly point to bring up. Neither is going to be a + defender ever, the question is why have 2 of them.
Fwiw, I think Forbes made a ton more mistakes fouling 3 pt shooters etc. And really stupid defensive mistakes. Got lost a ton. But it was his first season playing real minutes abd he played more than he should have. Wishing him a good season at this point.
That's the only thing that makes sense, there has to be a trade on the horizon. Package Pau and Mills for somebody then sign a big to replace Pau (Oakafor maybe).
