Yep, in big bold black letters is the history of the prison system here in America.
Robert Perkinson the author, the book was written in 2010.
There is a picture of a gang of black convicts digging a ditch on the cover, obviously an old picture. Bummer is the book didn't come with a CD about prisons, being a prisoner. Tons of songs out there about that experience.
I own what is considered the original "Black Betty", it was recorded in 1933 right there in Sugarland Prison. Ironhead Baker the lead singer with his fellow prisoners doing the background vocals. Amazing stuff.
Looking at the index for Angola Prison,(Louisiana) where Lead Belly and Robert Pete Williams were discovered I came across...
African Americans 2-4 6, 8, 9, 13, 20, 26, 45, 56, 121-122, 138-141, 149, 150-151, 161, 171-172, 177-180, 184-189, 205, 210-212, 232, 238, 240-241, 246-248, 256-257, 289-297, 303-305, 310, 312,313, 328, 334, 335, 338, 339, 363-366.
Hmmm?
We do see Alan and John Lomax mentioned, they are the ones who found Lead Belly. Who is mentioned numerous times.
I hate to move books up ahead of what I had planned but I can't wait to delve into this one, so an exception to my rule. As soon as I finish The Midnight Line the latest Jack Reacher novel.

A little bit about the book
In the prison business, all roads lead to Texas. A pioneer in criminal justice severity―from assembly-line executions to supermax isolation, from mandatory sentencing to prison privatization―Texas is the most locked-down state in the most incarcerated country in the world. Texas Tough, a sweeping history of American imprisonment from the days of slavery to the present, explains how a plantation-based penal system once dismissed as barbaric became a template for the nation.
Drawing on the individual stories as well as authoritative research, Texas Tough reveals the true origins of America's prison juggernaut and points toward a more just and humane future.
I own a few CD's recorded right there in prison by the convicts, yep....interesting.
One of them the singer is singing all about going home, "I'm going home..I'm going home, I'm going home, I'm going home" after the song the guy recording him asks him..."so what were you thinking about there", he replies..."ah, well....going home".....hahaha!
Robert Pete Williams killed a man so he was sent to the infamous Angola Prison in Louisiana. This was recorded while he was there. He did get out and would sign a recording contract, he also played at blues festivals. He along with Texan Mance Lipscomb and Mississippi Fred McDowell were old enought to have recorded in the 30's but for some reason they didn't. They didn't show up until the late 50's/ early 60's.
This is famous in the blues world.

The of it is that it doesn't matter if Kori neuters him again. Registration is back open. He'll just reincarnate like he did after RaZon got pinked.
The real of it is you.
Dude, what about this doesn't your dumb ass understand?

Wouldn't books and music be.....anything that is on your mind?
Dude, grow up, ok?
Why not complain about crap like this?
Which peed his pants?
Just as good as hefty
Stick to the topic remember?
Chapter 3...."Worse Than Slavery" and it's about 60 pages.
I do read two books at the same time sometimes, yep, that's what I'm going to do.
Blake
This thread is about a book called TEXAS TOUGH which is about how the prison system started in this country. In the book there is mention of Lead Belly a legendary folk/blues singer who was discovered in Angola Prison....ok?
If you really thought it was about trash bags then I have to question a Texas Tech education.
You said this.
But stick to the topic, pussy. No more "me"
So stick to the topic. ok?

I'm talking about Texas Tough trash bags. I'm not talking about you. Stop making this about me and stick to the topic of trash bags.
Now what's your opinion on Costco brand?
Ok, cool, just don't wimper around the next time you start a thread and I talk about blind blues singers...ok?
Do you know anything at all about the family behind TEXAS TOUGH trash bags? That was The Wahlberg family out of Shreveport Louisiana. The old man was a former piano player in New Orleans, played with Bunk Johnson. His wife was in charge of a house in Worthing Texas. So tell us how they got into the trash bag business.

Screw you, I'm on topic.
Who started this thread me or you?
Exactly. He'll come up with another goty superhero name like RaZon and be right back within days.
Dude, talking books and music is a no no, really?
But it's ok to go around accusing strangers of being some sick ass pedo like you do, right?
Trust me ya little ya try that anywhere else and you'd be banned.
Next time Blake makes a thread we'll talk trash bags in depth, trust me.
Why don't you create a duplicate thread about texas tough like you did Jack Reacher to let us know just how strongly you feel about the subject.
Dude, look at the dates, ok? 2013 and 2018. How many posters do we have here now that weren't here in 2013? And there has been another Reacher movie since then.
Why don't you do something all your own, it appears ya just leech off everyone else.
Are you kidding me? Who in the is going to post two threads about the exact same thing on the same day? Where is the common sense?
